  • Patent number: 5388741
Abstract: An improved tape-measure using and holding assembly (10) that includes a tape measuring cavity (24) and an adjacent implement cavity (26). Into the cavity (24) is inserted and held a conventional tape measure (50) that includes a tape-release, slide-lock (52) and a spring-biased measuring tape (54). Into the cavity (26) may be inserted a variety of pencils, pens and other small implements used in the trade. The assembly (10) which is integrally and preferably made of a hard impact plastic has a right section (14) that includes a tape-release slot (14E) through which projects the tape-release slide-lock (52) and a tape-measure opening (14F) through which the measuring tape (54) maybe extended and retracted to allow tape measurements to be made while the tape measure (50) is securely held within the cavity (24). On the back surface of the back section (18) of the assembly (10), is located a pair of protrusions (181) having belt slots (18J) through which is inserted a waist belt.

  • Patent number: 5386358
Abstract: A portable, twin-mounted light assembly (10) having a stand assembly (12) supported by a stable platform (14) and having on its top edge (120), a mounting bracket (16). The bracket (16) is disclosed in three designs: an inverted L-bracket (18), a double U-channel bracket (20) and a channeled L-bracket (24). In all designs, the bracket supports a primary-power junction box (26) and a detachable light-fixture attachment T-section (28). To each end of the T-section (28) is removably attached a light fixture assembly (34). The assembly includes a pair of legs (42,44) that when compressed fit into the end of the T-section (28). Conversely, when they are removed from the T-section (28), the two legs extend outwardly to allow the light fixture assembly (34) to be placed on a flat surface remote form the assembly (10).

  • Patent number: 5319365
Abstract: A portable hazard-warning light assembly (10) that is designed to warn on-coming vehicular traffic of a hazardous traffic/road condition. The assembly (10) consists of an elongated tubular body (12) having attached to its top edge (12A) a removable lens head (18) that houses an incandescent light bulb (62) that may be connected to a flasher (36). The bulb and flasher are powered by a single battery (60) that is housed within a battery compartment (20) located at the bottom edge (12D) of the body (12) and that includes a threaded battery compartment cover (28). The body (12) also has attached a slidable leg ring (34A) that has pivotally attached four retractable legs (34D) that are each supported by a leg brace (34H). To extend the legs, the ring (34A) is grasped and lowered. Conversely, to retract the legs, the ring is moved to its upward position. To apply power to the light bulb (62), the cover (28) is rotated which allows the battery (60) to move upwards and complete the electrical power circuit.

  • Patent number: 5285702
Abstract: An extendible handle for a tool to permit the user to increase the leverage applied by the tool. The extendible handle assembly has an inner handle member with a bushing affixed to its outer end. An outer handle member slides over the inner handle member and the outer handle member is hollow and contacts the bushing at the end of the internal handle. A bushing is also affixed to the inner end of the outer handle so that the handle cannot extend past the bushing on the inner handle. An air tight rearward air chamber is positioned between the outer end of the outer handle and an airtight forward chamber is formed between the internal bushing and the tool and bushing. An air passageway is provided along the internal bushing so that as the outer handle is moved in or out, this movement is damped by the necessity of air having to pass through the air passage in the internal bushing.

  • Patent number: 5060894
Abstract: A stand with collapsible legs. The legs are held to the stand by a disk member held within a pair of ears. One of the ears has a toothed opening, and the disk member includes a toothed opening. A gear member may be moved to a locked position where the gear contacts both the toothed portion of the disk member and the toothed portion of one of the ears which locks the disk in a fixed position. When the gear member is moved out of contact with the disk member, the disk member can then move freely with respect to the pair of ears. This permits the legs to be placed in numerous locked positions. Preferably, an outwardly extending tab allows the legs to be moved into a preferred position for locking.

  • Patent number: 4998616
Abstract: A four ply fold-up display and carrying case. The case has four plies which are hinged together. The outer plies are hinged at the bottom, and the inner plies are hinged both at the bottom and the top so that the case opens up in an accordion-like manner so that all four plies have an upwardly facing compartment.

  • Patent number: 4465113
Abstract: A splitter head including a body generally symmetrical about a central vertical plane, the lower portion of the body being bounded by opposed smooth-surfaced side walls converging downwardly to terminate in a cutting edge lying in the central plane. Spaced upwardly from the cutting edge, first and second sets of rollers are mounted in ports formed in the body, the rollers being rotatable about axes parallel to and disposed on opposite sides of the plane. The outer cylindrical surfaces of the rollers lie outwardly of the side walls. The upper body portion is defined by upper continuations of the side walls and recessed in at least one of the continuation walls there is provided a layer of phosphorescent material covered by a protective translucent coating. The side walls in the lower portion of the body may be formed to provide recesses flanking a central smooth vertical strip extending upwardly from just above the roller ports.

  • Patent number: 4462441
Abstract: A splitter wedge construction for selectively halving or quartering a workpiece such as a log including a first wedge having an upper anvil head and vertical elongated shank terminating in a downwardly directed cutting edge, the shank being provided with an elongated slot for receiving the central section of a second wedge having a downwardly directed cutting edge, the cutting edges of the two wedges when assembled being mutually perpendicular. Retaining spring pins are provided for removably retaining the two wedges loosely in assembled relation, with abutment faces of the two wedges in abuttable relation when force is applied to the anvil head.

  • Patent number: 4440205
Abstract: An axe or wedge has a head with a cutting surface along an edge thereof. A pair of levers are pivotally mounted in transverse apertures formed in the head so as to pivot in opposite directions about a common axis aligned with the cutting edge. Stop means are provided in the transverse apertures so as to offset the levers to opposite sides of the head. Springs connected between the head and the levers normally hold the levers against the stops. The head has a recess formed above each lever and into which the lever may pivot so as to be flush with the head. In one embodiment, the levers are bifurcated and have camming surfaces which extend out of the head to the side opposite the offset and which, upon contact with wood being split, urge the levers from the stops into contact with the wood being split.
