  • Patent number: 5014403
Abstract: A method of making a non raveling stretchable fiberglass fabric by knitting an elastic yarn under tension into the fabric in the length direction, releasing the tension from the elastic yarn to compact the fabric and removing the elastic yarn from the fabric.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 7, 1990
Date of Patent: May 14, 1991
Assignee: Johnson & Johnson Orthopaedics, Inc.
    Inventor: George J. Buese
  • Patent number: 4898159
Abstract: A ravel-free orthopaedic casting tape made with a fiberglass substrate coated with a water reactive hardenable resin. The fiberglass substrate is coated with a soft flexible binder to provide a thin stretchable coating on the substrate prior to the application of the water reactive hardenable resin to the substrate to form a casting tape. The soft flexible binder provides ravel resistance to the casting tape.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 9, 1988
Date of Patent: February 6, 1990
Assignee: Johnson & Johnson Orthopaedics, Inc.
Inventors: George J. Buese, Hee K. Yoon
  • Patent number: 4800872
Abstract: The casting tape substrate of the present invention is coated with a very soft, low modulus binder which is compatible with the polyurethane prepolymer or other curable resin which will be subsequently coated onto the substrate to form the casting tape. The binder prevents the cut ends of the substrate from unraveling. The binder may be applied in a pattern or continuously to the entire length of the substrate or may be applied at spaced zones where the knitted substrate will be cut to form a particular length of casting tape.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 20, 1987
Date of Patent: January 31, 1989
Assignee: Johnson & Johnson Orthopaedics, Inc.
Inventors: George J. Buese, Hee K. Yoon
  • Patent number: 4668563
Abstract: A conformable casting tape made with a combination of high modulus fibers and an elastomeric extensible fiber. The tape is capable of stretching 40 to 200% in the length direction and has a power of between 40 and 125 grams per inch of width at 30% elongation.
