  • Publication number: 20100096204
Abstract: A three-wheeled vehicle has a tilt-able platform, with walls on three sides and mounted to and supported by powered drive wheel portions of two motor scooters, one scooter at each side of the platform, and further supported by the front wheel assembly separated from one motor scooter and located at the front of the vehicle. The rear end of the platform has a tailgate. A handle on the platform is accessible to a wheelchair occupant to tilt the platform and fold the bottom-hinged tailgate downward to form a ramp so the wheelchair occupant can drive up the ramp and tilted platform to the front of the platform, returning it to level. Handle bars on the front wheel assembly are used for steering, and have throttle, horn, lights, turn signals, and braking controls for the wheelchair occupant to use while in the wheelchair to drive the vehicle on city and town streets and at speed ranges common to motor scooters.

  • Publication number: 20080196472
Abstract: A method for forming a smooth cylindrical inside wall of a tube is described. The tube is heated and a shaped arbor is inserted into the tube. The tube is forced against the arbor to shape the interior of the tube in general conformity to the arbor and the arbor is removed. The tube may be cut into several sections shaped to be useful as tapered roller bearing cups.

  • Patent number: 6053083
Abstract: A work station between an active spindle adaptor and a passive spindle adaptor having a common rotational axis, receives a workpiece ring supplied from a loader shuttle. The ring has circular outer edges in parallel spaced planes perpendicular to the cylindrical axis of the ring. Chamfered centering crescents on oppositely facing ring positioners engage opposite edges of the ring and simultaneously clamp and center the ring on the spindle axis. The active spindle then moves the clamped ring to position abutting the passive spindle adaptor and clamps the ring between the spindles. The crescents retract, the active spindle rotates the ring and the ring is machined outside and inside simultaneously. External turning tools are fixed to one toolholder slide, and an additional external tool is movably mounted to the slide.

  • Patent number: 5406820
Abstract: A tube making mill setup includes an induction heater for a billet, with means to transfer the heated billet directly to a piercing machine. The piercing machine includes main driving and gripping rolls on skewed axes and which drive the billet onto a piercing point. Upper and lower control rolls have axes parallel to the direction of billet drive through the machine. Internal cooling of the control rolls and the piercing point is provided by circulating cooling water through them. The piercing point is at the distal end of a mandrel which is swingable through an arc to place the formed tube on a take-away carriage.

  • Patent number: 5293794
Abstract: A machine for simultaneously turning and boring a ring-shaped workpiece has a frame of four parallel structural shafts secured between end stands. An active spindle assembly is mounted on a carriage slidably mounted on the shafts. The carriage is hydraulically drivable axially toward a stop cylinder of a passive spindle assembly rotatably mounted but axially immovable on one stand, to clamp the workpiece ring between a clamp cylinder of the active spindle assembly and the stop cylinder. The clamp cylinder is rotatable by the main machine drive motor for turning the workpiece. The workpiece ring is introduced laterally to the working area by a loader shuttle. Then the workpiece is centered in the work space by an axially drivable centering crescent as the workpiece is clamped in position between the clamp cylinder and stop cylinder for the turning to commence. Cylindrical slides and slideways are provided at right angles for both radial and axial movement of the external turning tool mounting bar.

  • Patent number: 4347770
Abstract: An apparatus for radially cutting cylindrical material including three rollers mounted with a first frame which is pivotable about an axis of one of the rollers with respect to a second frame which carries a saw arbor. One of the rollers is driven in rotation by a motor, and is geared to the saw arbor to drive the saw blades in rotation. A second roller is movable with respect to the first frame and the first roller, and a third roller is mounted on a hydraulic cylinder to clamp the three rollers against the exterior surface of a cylindrical material. Axial grooves are located on the drive roller to facilitate driving of the material, and circumferential grooves are provided on one of the other rollers to prevent axial displacement of the material subsequent to clamping. A ball screw unit pivots the first frame with respect to the second frame to cause the saw blades to engage the material and make radial cuts into the material. A process for radially cutting cylindrical material is also disclosed herein.
