    Abstract: One or more RFID tags (104) are integrated into a fire hose (102) to facilitate an individual's exit from a structure. A portable interrogator (106) worn by the individual interrogates the closest RFID tag (104). Each RFID tag (104) has location information stored therein which gets decoded upon interrogation by the portable interrogator (106). The RFID location information assists the individual in locating the hose (102) and following the hose towards its source point (110) and out of the structure.

    Abstract: A coke oven charging hole cover which includes a cylindrical wall section and a lower horizontal layer of a cast-in-place castable refractory material which is relatively dense and which contains a random dispersion of fine stainless steel fibers or similar fibers. A layer of an insulating material such as insulation board or a lightweight castable insulating refractory material is superimposed over the dense refractory material to enhance the overall insulating effect while avoiding damage due to carbon impregnation. A means for holding the refractory in the wall section such as a wire mesh which is fixed to the wall section and cast into the lower layer of the refractory is also provided.

    Abstract: A coke oven flushing liquor decanter apparatus that has a vertically elongated vessel that has a variable cross-sectional dimension so as to separate the flushing liquor into a lower liquid phase and an upper liquid phase. A vertical tube extends downwardly into the tar phase and a second vertical, downwardly extending tube concentrically surrounds the first vertical tube but concentrically surrounds the first vertical tube but does not extend into the tar phase. A lateral tube connects with first lateral tube in the tar phase to remove tar from the vessel, and a second lateral tube connects with the second vertical tube in the liquid from the vessel.

    Abstract: A charging hole cover sealing structure in which a disc-shape cover is superimposed over the charging hole and an annulus-shaped charging hole frame. The frame has on its top surface a peripheral medial groove and an inner planar surface. The cover has a lip with a terminal downwardly projecting peripheral tongue that engages the medial groove on the frame as the lip abuts its inner planar surface so that dual gas tight seals are established. A primary continuous seal is established at the point where the lip abuts the inner planar surface on the frame. The groove is filled with a heat resistant particulate material which will cause any coke oven gases escaping through this primary seal to be condensed so as to form a particularly effective sealant material made up of a mixture of the resultant tarry condensation with the particulate material.

    Abstract: A one-spot coke quench car is provided with a coke pile dispersement means to evenly distribute the coke within the car to permit additional coke to be accommodated and as an aid in more uniform quenching. The car has a sloping conduit therein and an exterior water metering valve that is fluidly connected to a pressurized tank of water mounted on the quench car frame. A small quantity (about two gallons) of water is pressurized in the water metering valve which can be opened to allow the small quantity of water to flow immediately and almost instantaneously through the sloping conduit and into the pile of incandescent coke. The water suddenly flashes, explosively, into a large volume of steam, expanding rapidly to disperse the coke within the quench car so that it is more nearly level therein.

A hood is fixed to the structure supporting a coke guide and has a movable portion that coacts with the rotatable shell when coke gravitates into the shell. The drum is rotatable to several operative positions.

    Abstract: A generally cylindrical drum of heat stress and corrosion resistant construction, and having an opening therein, is rotatably mounted on a frame movable on rails along the coke side of the coke oven battery. A movable cover is fixed to the shell and covers the opening in the shell through which hot coke passes, when pushed from a coke oven chamber. A hood is fixed to the structure supporting a coke guide and has a movable portion that coacts with the rotatable shell when coke gravitates into the shell. The drum is rotatable to several positions. Means are included to quench the hot coke and to extract the particulate laden steam which is generated by the quenching operation. Additional means are included to remove noxious gases and particulate matter which emanates from the hot coke.
