  • Patent number: 6261604
Abstract: The invention disclosed here is a method for making an insecticidal soil amendment from brewery diatomite. The invention involves mixing diatomaceous earth or “diatomite” which had a prior use as a filtering agent in a brewery with raw, finely ground, tree bark. The mixture is composted together for a certain period of time. The composting process removes organic particulates from the brewery diatomite, which were present as a result of its use as a filtering agent, and regenerates the insecticidal properties of the fossilized diatoms making up the diatomite. At the same time, the decaying organics provide composting nutrients for the tree bark making it better suited for use as a soil amendment.

  • Patent number: 4473390
Abstract: The product and method for forming the invention utilizes a base material of straw. The straw is coated with a water insoluble material which provides a slow decomposition when subjected to moisture and microbial action and which also in some cases can provide a release of nutrient as it decomposes. After applying the coating, the product is formed into compressed units for curing and then is ground into particles to provide a soil-like texture for use as a potting soil or for nursery beds.

  • Patent number: 4149658
Abstract: A hopper has an elongated nozzle projecting from the bottom thereof and a manually operable metering assembly having discs which form first and second loading areas operates reciprocally through the hopper in an arrangement such that in one movement thereof a first loading area is filled and the second area is emptied and in the other movement thereof the second area is filled and the first area is emptied whereby a charge is dispensed in each inward and outward movement of the metering assembly. The loading areas are adjustable in size to vary the charges dispensed and the nozzle is also adjustable in length to accommodate persons of different stature as well as to suit different dispensing applications.
