  • Patent number: 11559214
Abstract: An integrated triad system to measure a patient's blood pressure at different body positions, to instruct the patient when to move from one position to the next to alleviate vascular hypertension based on an algorithm stored in the system calculating blood pressure changes and predictive risk, and to transmit the result to a remote medical location. Using the integrated triad system to perform the test over a period can increase test sensitivity by accommodating the variable onset of the disease.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 29, 2018
Date of Patent: January 24, 2023
    Assignee: Purdue Research Foundation
Inventors: Craig J. Goergen, Kirk Solon Foster, David Reuter, George R. Wodicka

  • Publication number: 20170014082
Abstract: A system and method to assess vocal function of a subject. The system includes an accelerometer configured to acquire surface acceleration data associated with vocal functionality of the subject and a computer system configured to analyze the surface acceleration data and to estimate glottal airflow waveforms produced by the subject based on the surface acceleration data. The computer system performs the analysis and estimation by applying an inverse filter to the surface acceleration data based on a calibrated transmission line model and generates an indication of vocal functionality of the subject based on the estimated glottal airflow waveforms.

Abstract: A system and method to assess vocal function of a subject. The system includes an accelerometer configured to acquire surface acceleration data associated with vocal functionality of the subject and a computer system configured to analyze the surface acceleration data and to estimate glottal airflow wave-forms produced by the subject based on the surface acceleration data. The computer system performs the analysis and estimation by applying an inverse filter to the surface acceleration data based on a calibrated transmission line model and generates an indication of vocal functionality of the subject based on the estimated glottal airflow waveforms.

  • Patent number: 6705319
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for acoustically guiding a distal end of a tube within a body. An incident sound pulse is generated and propagated down the tube into the body. A plurality of microphones are located in the tube and are positioned to detect pulses traveling through the tube. A discriminator distinguishes between incident sound pulses and those that are reflected from within the body. The detected sound pulses are processed to provide an indication of the location of the distal end of the tube within the body, to assist with the guidance of the insertion into the body, to estimate dimensions of the body adjacent the distal end of the tube, and to determine if the tube is obstructed.

  • Patent number: 5445144
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for acoustically guiding a distal end of a tube within a body. The apparatus and method generates an incident sound pulse in the tube which propagates into the body, detects sound pulses resulting from the incident sound pulse and from reflected sound pulses from within the body, and processes the detected sound pulses to guide insertion of the distal end of the tube within the body. The apparatus and method provides an indication of the position of the distal end of the tube within the body conduit, estimates dimensions of the body conduit adjacent the distal end of the tube, and determines if the tube is obstructed.
