  • Patent number: 7316825
Abstract: A filter aid for use in connection with the filtration of liquids is provided. In particular, a filter useful in connection with the filtration of beer is provided. In addition, a method of filtering liquids is provided. According to the method, a filter aid comprising angular, isotropic particles is introduced to a liquid before the liquid is passed through a filter. In particular, a method for filtering beer comprising the introduction of angular, isotropic particles as a filter aid to a stream of unfiltered beer such that a filtration cake comprising filter aid and solids filtered from the beer is formed.

  • Patent number: 6699516
Abstract: Brewing method in which a suspension of cereals having undergone traditional mashing is boiled in the same kettle as that in which mashing is carrier out, with no hops present. Filtration in the method of the invention is carried out using a thin filter bed, i.e. a filter bed with a thickness between 20 mm and 60 mm, preferably on the order of 40 mm. The method is preferably carried out in an installation that includes a mash tub and at least one and preferably two or three kettles in which mashing and boiling takes place, the kettles being followed by a filter and preferably by a buffer tank and then by a cooler.

  • Publication number: 20040026338
Abstract: The invention relates to a filter aid for filtering a liquid, such as beer, in a filtration device working on a defined filtration velocity, said filter aid consists essentially of particles of a material A, wherein the flotation velocity UoA is measured as Formula (I): wherein dA is the diameter of the particle, &mgr; is the viscosity of the fluid, r is the density of the fluid and &rgr;a is the density of the particle. The invention further relates to the use of said filter aid as a precoating material in a candle filtration device and to the candle filtration device comprising a number of candles provided with a precoat consisting essentially of the filter aid according to the invention and to a filtrated liquid, for example alcohol and more in particular beer, obtained via a filtration method using a candle filtration device.

  • Patent number: 6117459
Abstract: The invention relates to new regenerable filtration adjuvants which are usable for the filtration of liquids, particularly beer at the end of the secondary fermentation storage, characterized in that they comprise synthetic or natural incompressible polymer grains or natural incompressible grains grains having a sphericity coefficient varying between approximately 0.6 and 0.9. The invention also relates to a method for regenerating a filtration adjuvant.

  • Patent number: 4816147
Abstract: There is disclosed a filtering method comprising using a filter-press-type device in the chambers whereof filtering means divide a compartment for material to be filtered from a filtrate-collecting compartment, compressing the possibly-washed material to be filtered by reducing the volume of the compartments for material to be filtered, discharging washing solute and filtrate which have passed through the filtering means, and dismantling said filter-press. The method makes use of filter means which are resistant and undistortable under the method conditions, and retains the filtering means in a relative position to the filtering chamber axis which is identical during all the filtering steps.
