  • Patent number: 4380392
Abstract: An instrument for counting and determining the size of particles suspended in a dispersion medium is calibrated by setting a certified particle contained in the dispersion medium in motion so that the particle repeatedly crosses the sensing zone of the instrument under calibration. An apparatus for accomplishing the calibration method comprises a vessel wherein a dispersion medium and a certified particle are placed and an actuator to set the certified particle in motion whereby a disperse system flow is simulated. Passing a flux of a radiant energy, such as light, through the dispersion medium gives rise to radiation pulses which are used as a basis to set the threshold of sensitivity of the instrument under calibration.
