  • Publication number: 20200182150
Abstract: A gas turbine engine comprising a gearbox that receives an input from a core shaft and outputs drive to the fan to drive the fan at a lower rotational speed than the core shaft. The gearbox is an epicyclic gearbox comprising planet gears, each of which is rotatable about its own axis on a respective pin with a journal bearing formed between each planet gear and its respective pin. A first oil supply system is arranged to provide an oil supply to the journal bearing via a first journal bearing supply channel formed through the pin. A second oil supply system is arranged to provide an oil supply to the journal bearing via a second journal bearing supply channel formed through the pin, the second oil system being different to the first oil system. The second journal bearing supply channel is parallel to the first journal bearing supply channel.

  • Publication number: 20200141277
Abstract: A fan case for a gas turbine aircraft engine, the fan case formed of a wall extending in a loop around an axis (9?) and along the axis (9?), and having a case length along the axis (9?), and a case perimeter around the axis, wherein the fan case comprises two or more longitudinal segments configured to be assembled to form the wall, wherein each longitudinal segment includes a portion of the wall extending at least part of the length of the fan case and forming an incomplete portion of the perimeter of the fan case.

  • Publication number: 20200141358
Abstract: A gas turbine engine for an aircraft includes: an engine core having a turbine, a compressor, and a core shaft connecting the turbine to the compressor, wherein the engine core extends along a rotational axis, and has an engine core diameter perpendicular to the rotational axis; and a fan having a plurality of fan blades extending radially from the rotational axis, wherein the fan has a fan diameter perpendicular to the rotational axis, wherein a ratio of the engine core diameter to the fan diameter is between 1:1.7 and 1:2.2.

  • Publication number: 20160166658
Abstract: Provided are methods and materials for treating a neurological, behavioural, psychological, psychiatric, or personality disorder or syndrome in an individual, which disorder or syndrome is associated with a plurality of aberrant thoughts, behaviors and/or dispositions to behaviour. The methods comprise (i) selecting an individual suffering from, or believed to suffer from, said disorder or syndrome; and (ii) selecting a set of effector junctions in the individual, wherein at least one of said aberrant thoughts, behaviors or dispositions is modifiable by modulation of transmission across the set of effector junctions; (iii) treating the individual with an agent (for example botulinum toxin or a derivative or analog thereof) or intervention which causes blockade of or interference with the set of effector junctions, wherein blockade of the set of effector junctions results in an inhibition of the plurality of aberrant thoughts, behaviors and/or dispositions associated with the disorder.

  • Patent number: 6001143
Abstract: Thermally shock-resistant chemically bonded agglomerates suitable for use as a combustible fuel or in a gasification process are produced by:(a) mixing particulate organic material comprising particulate carbonaceous fuel and/or animal excrement (such as dewatered comminuted sewage sludge) with a lignosulfonate, in the presence of water, with application of heat sufficient to maintain the lignosulfonate in fluid form, so as to deposit a film of lignosulfonate over the surface of the particulate material;(b) oxidatively conditioning the lignosulfonate coated particulate material under conditions permitting escape of water present in the mixed particulate material, the conditioning either being in the presence of calcium ions or being followed by mixing the conditioned particulate material with lime; and(c) shaping the resulting free-flowing plastic mixture under pressure, to form the thermally shock-resistant agglomerates.

  • Patent number: 5935296
Abstract: Thermally shock stable bonded solid materials are formed by mixing a solid mineral or inorganic material in an aqueous medium with a lignosulfonate, treating the aqueous medium with a metal ion- based complexing agent (such as lime), with application of heat sufficient to maintain the lignosulfonate in fluid form, so as to produce an intimate mix of saturated slaked lime with lignosulfonate and the mineral or inorganic material, and thoroughly mixing the resulting substantially dry material with dry urea (or a derivative thereof) so as to cause the mix to agglomerate, preferably followed by shaping the agglomerates by briquetting or the like.

  • Patent number: 4824438
Abstract: Green briquettes made from particulate carbonaceous material and lignosulfonate as a binder are cured in an oven in the presence of circulating gases containing a high percentage of oxygen and superheated steam. The sulfur derived from the binder is oxidized and then hydrolyzed (exothermic reactions) at the curing temperature with formation of sulfuric acid, which is dissociated (endothermic reaction) in the case of a temperature rise. The reactions provide a means for thermal balance within the curing oven.
