The surgical buttress includes an elongate rectangular body portion defining a width; a nose portion integrally formed with and extending from a distal end of the body portion, the nose portion defining a width that is less than the width of the body portion; a neck portion integrally formed with and extending from a distal end of the body portion, the neck portion defining a width; a head portion integrally formed with and connected to a distal end of the neck portion, the head portion defining a width; and a tail portion integrally formed with and extending from a proximal end of the body portion, the tail portion defining a width that is less than the width of the body portion. The surgical buttress is formed from a material having filaments. The surgical buttress include radioactive material.

Abstract: An apparatus for joining two hollow organ sections includes a staple cartridge component, an anvil component, a knife member, a buttress mount and a buttress member. The staple cartridge component includes a plurality of surgical staples in an annular array. The anvil component is movable relative to the staple cartridge component between spaced apart and approximated positions to adjustably clamp tissue. The knife member is movable relative to the staple cartridge component. The buttress mount is concentrically disposed at least partially within the lumen of the knife member. The buttress mount includes a plurality of spokes radially extending outward and a plurality of legs detachably secured with an inner wall of the knife member. The buttress member is secured with the plurality of spokes of the buttress mount. The buttress member is concentrically aligned with the plurality of surgical staples.

Abstract: A medical device includes an elongate body having a proximal portion and a distal portion. The proximal portion of the elongate body terminates in a free end and the distal portion forms a loop. The loop includes a proximal portion and a distal portion, and a plurality of barbs disposed along a surface thereof. A pledget is disposed adjacent the proximal portion of the loop. The elongate body, loop, and/or barbs may be formed from shape memory polymers that are configured to change shape in vivo upon application of energy. Methods for securing medical devices of the present disclosure are also disclosed.
