Patent number: 8418219Abstract: A method and apparatus for simultaneously testing multiple set-top boxes uses a test equipment structure or frame for receiving a known good set-top box and a plurality of set-top boxes to be tested against a known good set-top box. A movable shelf structure is provided for electrically connecting at least each set-top box to be tested by a single sliding motion. Connectors on a backplane are made moveable to adjust for slight variations in the position of the connectors on the set-top boxes. An infrared control system generates an infrared signal to transmit to each set-top box and other related equipment in the testing operation such as televisions and receivers such that the function of each set-top box and related equipment is the same at each instant. Once received, the data pattern is compared with an expected data pattern. A difference between the received data and the expected data is indicative of a defect in the telephone line interface card. To meet telephone line interface card timing consideration, the transmission of data to the interface card and the analysis of data received from the card are performed by separate subsystems. To accomplish this task, the telephone line interface card is tested in a test fixture which includes a digital line interface card tester, and a communications test set. Patent number: 4741017Abstract: A plurality of control channel units in a telephone channel bank which communicate with other control channel units through a trunk line connection are serviced by a system which monitors data transmission consisting of coded commands and responses. These commands are transmitted to and response received from the channel units. A central control which provides the commands in coded characters which in the described embodiment are hexadecimal numbers. The monitoring system receives the data of the coded characters and analyzes and stores the data in memory. The data stored is thus analyzed for abnormal or erroneous conditions or status. When such condition or status or other failure occurs it is detected, the circumstances of the occurrence are reviewed and reported in a print-out on a printer. And also the report may be displayed on a screen.
