  • Patent number: 4938524
Abstract: A semi-truck trailer gooseneck assembly comprises a single curved plate extending transversely between and beyond the twin parallel longitudinal girders to form a single lower flange. The curved plate extends from the assembly supporting the floor over the fifth wheel and connecting the king pin to the trailer. The rear portion of the curved plate extends to the horizontal flat lower flanges of the twin girders extending substantially the length of the trailer. The result is a structure of increased strength and moment of inertia permitting the web depth of the gooseneck to be substantially decreased. The rear corner post comprises a two piece welded assembly wherein the major section is substantially an elongated "S" and the minor section "L" shaped. The shapes are welded together to form a hollow center portion and a pocket portion. The "L" section forms a contact for the rear door and the pocket engages the curtain to enable the curtain to be fully tightened when closed.

  • Patent number: 4558886
Abstract: Fluid circuit means to elevate the rear end of a truck trailer are incorporated in the air ride suspension means for the truck trailer and in communication with the air brake or spring brake fluid circuitry. The fluid circuitry provides manually controllable means to elevate the bed of the truck trailer at the rear thereof when the truck trailer is parked. The fluid circuitry is in communication with the spring brake fluid circuitry to prevent elevation of the truck trailer when the truck trailer parking brakes are not applied. The fluid circuitry provides a manually controllable connection bypassing the leveling valves to raise the truck trailer by admitting additional air under pressure into the air ride bags supporting the trailer. The fluid circuitry connections assure that the elevating system will be released and the excess air in the air ride bags exhausted automatically when the spring brake circuitry is pressurized to release the trailer parking brake.

  • Patent number: 4437696
Abstract: The invention comprises an improved movable truck bumper that can be raised and lowered vertically from inside the cab of the truck to which the bumper is attached. The bumper includes an electrical control inside the cab to raise and lower the bumper and to signal the bumper height to the operator. The operator can thereby ascertain the height of the bumper without exiting the cab or viewing the bumper with mirrors. In the preferred embodiment, lights identifying the correct bumper heights for various automobile models or body styles are mounted in a control box with the height control adjacent the operator. The mechanical portion of the bumper comprises a vertical support frame attached to the vehicle frame in place of the standard bumper and a vertically movable lift frame nested onto the support frame. A vertically mounted hydraulic cylinder is substantially nested within the support and lift frames providing an exceptionally compact structure that can be mounted very close to the front of the vehicle.
