Patent number: 10567966Abstract: A security access system that uses a masking signal transmitted simultaneously with a transmission from a remote Fob or smartphone to mask the transmitted code signal. The remote unit acts in the classical way, as a transmitter only. However, the Base has both receive and transmit functionality. The added transmitter within the Base is used to create a self-generated masking signal. This signal, while fully known to the base, is unknown to any other receiver (including that of an eavesdropper) in the area. Thus only the Base Receiver can subtract out this added signal from the composite signal it receives to recover the access code.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2018Date of Patent: February 18, 2020Inventor: Gerald P. Ryan

Patent number: 10286286Abstract: A treadmill safety system that detects the runner or treadmill user without the need for attaching a string to the runner. It includes two basic components: 1) a distance or proximity sensor, laser, ultrasonic, IR, or other and 2) a method to kill treadmill power in the case the runner is not detected in position by the sensor. This can be by deactivation by electromagnet as in present treadmills, interruption of main power, or by any other method.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2017Date of Patent: May 14, 2019Inventor: Gerald P. Ryan

Patent number: 9892603Abstract: An alarm extension system that takes an interior alarm condition and extends it to the exterior of a structure. In various embodiments, the present invention is a system and method that links to an existing alarm (smoke detector, burglar alarm, etc.) and activates a flashing mode in one or more exterior lights or an exterior siren. Thus, during an alarm condition within the house or other structure, a neighbor or anyone passing by can become aware of the alarm condition. This method of signaling thus alerts many in the surrounding area of a situation within the building that may require emergency assistance. An alarm indication may also be transmitted over a network to a remote location. The network can be a telephone network and/or the Internet, and the alarm indication can be received by a smartphone or tablet device at the remote location.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2016Date of Patent: February 13, 2018Inventor: Gerald P. Publication number: 20130088323Abstract: A shipping and distribution system with remote holding pods where a shipper can safely leave a package, and the recipient of the package can pick it up. The system controls the package from the time the shipper leaves it at the pod until the package owner or recipient or authorized party retrieves it. A system controller with an online interface allocates the temporary storage resources to shipping/receiving parties. Secure access codes are provided to both the shipper and the recipient. The secure storage area at the pod can contain a contents sensor that can notify the receiver when the package is deposited and the sender when the package is retrieved.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2012Publication date: April 11, 2013Inventor: Gerald P. Patent number: 7570127Abstract: An IF receiver receives a tapped portion of a modulated communication signal. A processor, local with respect to the IF receiver, receives an interrupt from a main processor instructing it to evaluate the power levels of desired and undesired components of the communication signal. The interrupt may be sent for a variety of reasons, such as according to a predetermined schedule, or in response to changes in a communication network, such as new equipment installation and temperature changes. The local processor instructs the IF receiver to tune it's LO so that the evaluation range of the receiver and feedback loop to parameter-adjustable components includes the frequency, or frequencies, of a specified signal component. The local processor evaluates the power level of the specified signal component. Based on the evaluation, the local processor instructs parameter-adjustable signal processing components to alter parameters to optimize characteristics of the communication signal for transmission.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2007Date of Patent: August 4, 2009Assignee: ARRIS Group, Inc.Inventors: Gerald P. Ryan, Ubaldo Cepeda

Patent number: 6769132Abstract: In a cable data system, several frequency division multiplexed upstream data signals on an individual cable can be selectively routed to frequency-selective band pass filters using a relay matrix between the filters and the cable. By appropriately controlling the relays, the upstream information can be split out to as many different filters that might be required to recover the frequency division multiplexed information. Cabling installation to a cable modem termination system is simplified and maintenance costs are reduced by carrying multiple signals on one cable.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2000Date of Patent: July 27, 2004Assignee: Arris International, Inc.Inventors: Thomas J. Cloonan, Daniel W. Hickey, Ubaldo Cepeda, Gerald P. Ryan

Patent number: 6662368Abstract: A plurality of daisy-chained switching circuit cards are each coupled to a different active circuit card. Feed-through circuit cards are each coupled to spare circuit cards having substantially identical circuitry to the active circuit cards. The feed-through circuit cards are also daisy-chained with the switches on the switching circuit cards. The switching circuit cards can replace the feed-through circuit cards and the active circuit cards replace the spare circuit cards in order to vary the size of the spare groups (a group of spare circuit cards and active circuit cards) and also the quantity of the spare groups.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2000Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Arris International, Inc.Inventors: Thomas J. Patent number: 6637033Abstract: In a cable data system, frequency division multiplexed upstream data traffic is first split for subsequent signal processing. In the course of performing an analog RF signal splitting operation, signal splitter output amplitude is decreased as an artifact of an RF signal splitter. A signal splitter indicator type that is used per signal splitter, provides an indication to the CMTS channel interface cards to control the amount of compensating gain required to restore the original signal to its original amplitude.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2000Date of Patent: October 21, 2003Assignee: Arris International, Inc.Inventors: Thomas J. Cloonan, Gerald P. Ryan, Ubaldo Cepeda

Patent number: 6449249Abstract: Active and spare circuit cards are each paired with switch cards. Each switch on the switch cards is daisy chained with prior and succeeding switches. A master controller senses a faulty circuit indication signal from each of the active circuit cards. When the faulty circuit indication signal indicates a fault on a particular active circuit card, the controller instructs the switch card that is paired with that circuit card to switch it out and switch in a spare circuit card.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2000Date of Patent: September 10, 2002Assignee: Arris International, Inc.Inventors: Thomas J.
