  • Patent number: 4947163
Abstract: A key for an electronic lock system is provided with circuitry capable of performing a plurality of lock-related functions. Stored in the key is characterization data that determines the key's particular functionality be electronically disabling certain ones of these functions, leaving just a subset of functions from which the operator may select. Keys having various capabilities can thus be electronically tailored from a single master design.

  • Patent number: 4916443
Abstract: A key is provided with a memory in which, without user intervention, it collects data relating to lock operations each time the key interacts with a lock. This data is subsequently downloaded from the key to a computer. In some embodiments, the keys collect data relating not just to their own transactions, but also poll lock memories for the locks' prior transactions as well. By this arrangement, a patchwork collection of redundant data can be developed in the computer, improving data integrity and reducing data latency.
    Type: Grant

Inventors: Philip D. Barrett, Gerald R. Daum, Wayne F. Larson
  • Patent number: 4914732
Abstract: An electronic key for an electronic lock system is provided with graphical user interface which can display a plurality of symbols corresponding to a plurality of functions that the key can cause the lock to execute. An operator of the key moves a visual indicia among these symbols to select a desired function. The key then transmits instructions to the lock causing the selected function to be executed.

  • Patent number: 4896246
Abstract: Battery power in an electronic lock system is conserved by delaying application of energy to the unlocking mechanism until a movable member, used to open the lock system, is moved.

  • Patent number: 4766746
Abstract: A comprehensive real estate lockbox system is disclosed which provides a variety of operational features. Some of these features include the ability to: record all accesses to all lockboxes; transfer all or part of such records from the lockboxes to a supervising real estate agency or board; organize and review such records; facilitate operation of lockboxes that are mounted in awkward or poorly lit locations; limit lockbox accesses to preselected agents, agencies or boards; reprogram lockboxes in the field; monitor redundantly the status of the lockbox battery; record diagnostic information on each operation of a lockbox or key; render keys inoperative on predetermined dates; disable unauthorized keys; grant agents from remote real estate boards permission to open certain lockboxes, and; grant different keys different privileges.
