  • Patent number: 5390574
Abstract: A punch press having automated punching programs executed by a hydraulic cylinder operating a punch ram, in which a pump used to generate hydraulic pressure for a ram cylinder is adjusted to an output corresponding to a calculation of the minimum pump pressure required to completely execute the program. The workpiece material and tool characteristic data is contained in data storage tables and utilized in calculating the minimum pressure required.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: February 21, 1995
    Inventor: Gerard J. Schorn
  • Patent number: 5299478
Abstract: A method for controlling punch press noise in which the noise level produced is monitored by a detector and the press ram velocity is modified in real time to keep the noise level within preset limits. A time weighted average noise level is also controlled by varying the ram velocity for punching operations over a period of operation to maintain a projected time weighted average within a preset limit.

  • Patent number: 5199338
Abstract: A collision avoidance system for program controlled punch presses which position the ram at a low "hover" height during work piece movement in which a switch is located to be tripped by inward movement of the workpiece gripper carriage to a degree in which a punch-gripper collision is possible, with the ram elevated to a safe height whenever the switch has been tripped.

  • Patent number: 5048816
Abstract: A system is disclosed for registering a sheet in punch press or other apparatus having a control system carrying out a programmed position of the sheet during punching operations, in which a movable locator plate is urged into an advanced position along an axis of movement so as to be displaced when the sheet is moved a fixed distance along one axis. A distance transducer generates a continuously varying electrical signal corresponding to the displacement of the locator plate from its advanced position, which signal is transmitted to the control system to modify the part program in accordance with the actual location of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 5047752
Abstract: A safety system for a machine tools having a powered feed table in which ultrasonic transmitters and receivers are arrayed on the leading, trailing and lateral sides of the table establishing moving protected zones so that if an operator enters the zones, the machine is shut down only if the table has moved close to the person in that zone. A failsafe feature causes shutdown in the event of failure of any of the safety system components.
