  • Publication number: 20090301649
Abstract: The purpose is to improve the usability of the film coating in a coating module for the transfer of image-forming layers from a transfer film to a printing material. A film transfer module is, for that purpose, arranged in a printing machine for the single-color or multicolor printing of printed sheets. Moreover, one or more coating installations, in the form of varnishing modules, are arranged before and/or after the printing machine. By the application of layers, a subject consisting of a film image and a printed image is coated over part of the surface or over the entire surface. The additional coats serve the function of providing protection, drying, or generating optical effects.

  • Publication number: 20090095179
Abstract: An inking unit in a printing machine having an ink dispensing system comprising an inking roller and a form cylinder carrying at least one printing form. The inking roller transfers printing ink arriving thereon to at least one printing form positioned on the form cylinder. The printing ink is transferable from a respective printing form to print sheets moved between the form cylinder and an impression cylinder. The inking roller is also adjustable relative to the form cylinder. An engagement and/or disengagement of the inking roller relative to the form cylinder and/or an engagement and/or disengagement of a print blanket cylinder or form cylinder relative to the impression cylinder is performable such that print sheets become can be imprinted with a residual ink image by residual ink remaining on the plate cylinder or print blanket cylinder in a printing ON setting with the ink supply disengaged.

  • Patent number: 6343548
Abstract: A sheet-fed printing machine having a control console at the downstream end of a sheet transfer system which transfers printed sheets to a delivery unit. The control console has an inclined proof sheet support surface disposed in direct overlying relation to the delivery unit and sheet transfer system upon which a proof sheet withdrawn from the delivery unit may be positioned and assessed for quality. The support surface further includes control elements for directly adjusting and controlling printing quality based upon assessment of the proof sheet. With the control console support surface in overlying relation to the sheet transfer system and the delivery unit, the support surface is at a height which can be comfortably used by an operator of average height and does not impede access to the end of the printing machine nor increase its overall length.

  • Patent number: 5370051
Abstract: A clamping device for attachment of a printing plate having registry defining notches in the leading edge thereof in proper registry on the plate cylinder of a sheet-fed printing machine is provided. The clamping device includes a clamping rail disposed in an axis-parallel recess in the plate cylinder and has a closable plate receiving gap therein for fastening the leading edge of the printing plate to the clamping rail. A plurality of adjustable stops are disposed in the plate receiving gap of the clamping rail for abutting the corresponding registry defining notches in the leading edge of the printing plate for locating the printing plate on the cylinder in proper registry.

  • Patent number: 4660470
Abstract: As ink is conveyed through the inking unit of a printing machine, a state of equilibrium occurs which ensures adequate inking of the printing plate during continuous printing. The equilibrium state includes different ink gradients for the respective printing zones superimposed on a uniform base level. In order to achieve the state of equilibrium rapidly and easily at the start of printing, an ink distribution is produced in the inking unit before printing closely matching the state of equilibrium for continuous printing. An accurately defined ink film distribution is initially fed to the inking unit rollers via the vibrator. Preferably, when the ink applicator rollers are thrown off of the plate cylinder and the sheet feed is off, a predetermined amount of ink is introduced to the inking unit. The vibrator is then shut off and the base level of ink is allowed to become uniformly distributed. Next the ink profile is set at the ink metering elements and the vibrator is turned on.
