  • Patent number: 5259206
Abstract: A compact condenser system has a compact arrangement that also increases the efficiency of the condenser. The compact condenser comprises two heat exchangers fixed opposite each other on a frame and at least one fan is interposed between the heat exchangers so as to draw air through the second heat exchanger and push air through the first heat exchanger while refrigerant flows from the first heat exchanger to the second heat exchanger. Liquefaction of the refrigerant with two opposed heat exchangers increases the efficiency and compactness of the condenser.

  • Patent number: 5226285
Abstract: A self-cleaning heat exchanger (10) has a reversible fan (12) located between two tube banks (14, 16) with a pressure switch (24) connected thereto. The fan (12) rotates in one direction blowing across the first tube bank (14) and drawing air over the second tube bank (16). The pressure switch and fan are interconnected by two relays (28, 30). When the refrigerant pressure in the tube banks exceeds the threshold pressure, the relay (28) is closed and grounded and electric current flows through the relay (30). The change in direction of current flow will reverse the polarity of the windings in motor (13) and thus the rotation of the motor (13) and the fan (12) thereby reversing air flow to remove debris from one tube bank while withdrawing heat from the other without loss of cooling efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4567734
Abstract: An air deflector unit for use on a vehicle to improve aerodynamic flow of air around the vehicle includes a forward facing shield having a forward facing air inlet therein and an inwardly facing air exhaust. An air flow passage is defined between the air inlet and the air exhaust. An air conditioning compressor is mounted in the air flow passage. Flow of air through the condenser is controlled by controlling louvers positioned in the inlet. Control is in response to the operation of the air conditioning system of which the compressor is a part.

  • Patent number: 4190105
Abstract: A heat exchange coil for use in engine radiators or other heat exchange units is provided. The coil includes a heat exchange tube with an insert fitted therein. The insert includes a longitudinal core, with a plurality of fins depending radially from the core. The fins have a tip section formed with a curved contour but with an outer diameter slightly larger than the inside diameter of the tube. The fins are sufficiently thin to permit flexing of the tip sections to take on the contour of the inner surface of the tube when inserted into the tube. In another embodiment of the invention, the insert includes a longitudinal core with a plurality of fins having bifurcated ends. The fins depend radially from the core. The bifurcated ends of the fins are curved in opposite directions and are flexible to permit insertion into the heat exchange tube.

  • Patent number: 4138857
Abstract: A bracket assembly is provided for securing an auxiliary cooling system to a main automobile cooling system. The bracket assembly provides two one piece wire rods having their ends attached one to the other to form a closed loop. The loops are elongated with two parallel arms interconnected by curved ends. The loops are mounted parallel one to the other on an automobile cooling unit. An auxiliary cooling unit is mounted to the brackets by bolt assemblies which are engaged through the loops formed by the rods. The auxiliary cooling system may be positioned relative to the main cooling system by sliding the unit along the longitudinal length of the loops. The auxiliary system is fixed in a desired position by engaging the bolt assembly to clamp the auxiliary cooling system to the bracket assembly.

  • Patent number: 4063431
Abstract: An automotive vehicle cooling system is provided, wherein refrigerants are condensed and vehicle oils are cooled in a single unitary heat exchanger mounted forward but spaced apart from the engine radiator in the air path of the engine fan. A vehicle oil conduit is passed through the bottom tank of the engine radiator, and thence through the heat exchanger to efficiently cool the vehicle oil under load conditions without imparting excessive heat to the radiator coolant. When air conditioning is used, refrigerant vapor from a compressor is condensed within the heat exchanger without impairing the cooling of the vehicle oil.In a preferred embodiment, a heat exchange insert is placed in the oil conduit within the heat exchanger to improve heat transfer, and an auxiliary fan is mounted on the front face of the heat exchanger to supplement the engine fan and the ram air produced by vehicle motion.
