  • Patent number: 6395041
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for sizing a yarn sheet, the yarn sheet is passed over rollers through a wetting unit and a following roller nip that reduces the moisture content to a selected level. The wetted yarn sheet then passes through a sizing unit and over rollers forming a nip to reduce the sizing content to a desired level. The rollers of the wetting unit and the rollers of the sizing unit are in close proximity to minimize the reach of the yarn sheet there between and thereby minimize the heat loss in the yarn sheet. The reach is covered by a cover having a heater that extends over the yarn sheet reach to maintain the yarn sheet at a desired temperature as it enters the sizing unit. The temperature of the wetting agent bath in the wetting unit is 65°-95° C., with the temperature of the wetting agent being approximately 5°-10° C. higher than the temperature of the sizing agent bath.

  • Patent number: 5922084
Abstract: A process for applying indigo dyestuff on a textile substrate is described, wherein the substrate is saturated with liquid steeping liquor containing indigo dyestuff and the saturated substrate is directly passed through a first low-oxygen wet dwelling section and only thereafter is dewatered. To maximize the dyestuff yield or diffusion into the individual fibers of the substrate, a second enclosed low-oxygen wet dwelling section is defined by an essentially sealed housing which is connected to the first wet dwelling section. The substrate is initially heated in the second wet dwelling section and the substrate travels through the remainder of the second wet dwelling section for a sufficient time to permit diffusion of the dyestuff into the fibers of the still moist substrate.

  • Patent number: 5626676
Abstract: A sizing applicator with two pairs of rollers arranged in sequence with one another along the transport path of a yarn sheet can be converted, without changing the position of the pairs of rollers, between an operating mode as a pad-type sizing applicator and a squeezing-type sizing applicator. Each pair of rollers has a defined gap at a common tangent therebetween and each pair of rollers has one roller disposed at a lower elevation than the other roller of the pair. The two roller pairs are relatively arranged such that their respective common tangents intersect beneath the roller pairs approximately midway between the roller pairs.

  • Patent number: 5157818
Abstract: In sizing and drawing of one or more textile filaments, particularly a warp sheet of multiple filaments, by successively conveying the filaments through a sizing bath, a driven squeezing mechanism, a differentially driven spaced drying roller, and a warp beam or other filament winding mechanism, the filaments are heated to a temperature of approximately 100.degree. C. and maintained in a predetermined moistened condition, e.g., by the application of saturated airborne water vapor, within the draw zone between the squeezing mechanism and the drying roller, in order to achieve a sufficiently elevated temperature for draw stretching of polyester filaments, particular POY and LOY filament, without premature drying and undesirable cracking of the sizing applied to the filaments.

  • Patent number: 5133279
Abstract: A web drying apparatus is provided for a textile machine of the type which is operable to apply a coating or otherwise to wet a web of textile material which is continuously traveled therethrough. The web drying apparatus includes at least a pair of groups of cylindrical drying rollers with each group of rollers being disposed on a respective side of a reference plane. The reference plane is inclined upwardly relative to a nip formed by a pair of squeezing rollers of the wetting device which applies the coating or otherwise wets the textile material. In one embodiment, the drying rollers of one group are disposed in a horizontal plane and the drying rollers of the other group are disposed in a vertical plane. The web drying apparatus additionally includes a device for separating a wet textile web into multiple separate webs.

  • Patent number: 4922592
Abstract: In a size applicator in which size is circulated between a reservoir tank and an applicator tank from which the size overflows back into the reservoir tank, the squeezing pressure applied to the traveling textile substrate is regulated in response to a sensing of the speed of the substrate. A secondary regulation is applied as a function of sensing of the volume of the size being in comparison with the substrate speed. This sensing of the volume of the size being consumed is accomplished by a hydrostatic sensor in the reservoir tank, the output of which sensing is applied to a microprocessor that compares the signal from the size level sensor with the signal from the tachometer that senses the substrate speed, and upon the comparison exceeding a predetermined tolerance, a further regulation is applied to the piston-cylinder mechanisms that control the squeezing pressure between squeeze rollers and between an emersion roller and the bottom squeeze roller.

  • Patent number: 4762727
Abstract: Method for applying a liquefiable material in form of a foam or a high-viscosity solution from a storage container onto a substrate which is conveyed in form of a web, with the aid of an application device which is provided with at least one discharge opening which is oriented in a line transversely to the direction the web is moving. A stream of the liquefiable material is introduced at one end of the application device. This stream is metered and the quantity passing through per time unit is measured. Part of the stream of liquefiable material is discharged at the other end of the application device and conducted back to the storage container, and also the flow-through quantity per time unit is measured. The difference of the measured quantities passed through per time unit is compared to a nominal value. The parts of the stream are dosed such that the difference of the measured quantities passing through per time unit approaches the nominal value.

  • Patent number: 4728541
Abstract: A method of operating a finishing machine includes impregnating all of the threads of an undivided warp formed of individual threads at full thread density with liquid sizing. All of the threads of the undivided warp are directly sprayed at full thread density with a post-treatment separating agent while the sizing is still in the liquid state. The individual threads of the warp are subsequently dried in an undivided manner at full thread density.

  • Patent number: 4449476
Abstract: Method of coating or impregnating a guided web-shaped substrate with a flowable medium, which includes monitoring the composition of the flowable medium; continuously measuring the rate of travel of the substrate; applying a metered amount of flowable medium to the substrate at a given feeding point, corresponding to the monitored composition of the flowable medium and corresponding to the measured rate of travel of the substrate; continuously measuring the amount of flowable medium not yet accepted by the substrate; and regulating the transfer of flowable medium to the moving substrate corresponding to the measured amount of flowable medium to maintain a constant amount of flowable medium applied within pre-determined limits, and an apparatus for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 4317290
Abstract: An apparatus for the heat treatment of a material passing through a plurality of treatment zones using a heated gaseous treatment medium conducted in a substantially closed circuit through these zones. A heat exchanger is associated with each treatment zone. The heat exchanger defines, in an operative relation with the respective treatment zone a medium discharge path and a medium replacement path which paths are arranged in a heat exchange relationship. The fractional portion of a treatment medium discharged from each treatment zone transfers its heat and energy to the fresh replacement medium. A throttle or flow control in the medium replacement path for each treatment zone permits individualized control of draft and medium turnover according to the different conditions prevailing in each zone. A filter is also provided to prevent impurities in the medium discharge flow path from entering the heat exchanger.
