  • Patent number: 5067062
Abstract: With this illumination device for the illumination of a transport system, such as escalators and passenger walkways, light sources are provided in the balustrade skirting. The light of the light source is reflected by lenses upon intermediate legs of a support device which carries the handrail of the transport system. By ascribing a suitable configuration and surface properties to the intermediate legs the light is deflected in a desired direction. This illumination device serves not only for illumination purposes but also for the decorative or aesthetic appearance of escalators and passenger walkways.

  • Patent number: 4953686
Abstract: The balustrade for transportation apparatus, such as an escalator or a moving passenger walkway contains upright balustrade panels directly laterally guiding tread elements, such as steps or tread plates so as to dispense with both of the conventionally employed inner balustrade decks with their associated inner deck covers. A respective stable support profile member connected with a support body and arranged at both sides of a transport element, such as a step or tread plate band receives the base of the associated balustrade panel. The heads of screws or threaded bolts required for fastening the associated balustrade panel are arranged counter-sunk in openings of such balustrade panel. Apart from the savings in cost realized with the invention it is also possible to reduce the entire structural width of the transportation apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4863006
Abstract: A pair of light barriers are mounted on a pair of spaced apart balustrade sockets located on opposite sides of an endless step conveyor-type escalator. The light barriers are positioned at the transition of upper and lower transisition arches to an inclined run of the conveyor. The light barriers each include a transmitter and receiver for emitting and receiving a light beam transversely to the direction of travel of the conveyor. The light beam is interrupted by side shields on the conveyor steps. An opening is formed adjacent a leading edge of each side shield and one or more openings are formed adjacent a trailing edge of each side shield. The trailing edge openings are formed as oblong holes each with a longitudinal axis extending with respect to the tread of the step at the same angle as the inclination of the inclined run of the escalator with respect to the horizontal.

  • Patent number: 4623060
Abstract: Using the cleaning apparatus there can be cleaned the inner surfaces of a glass lining which laterally covers the support structure of an escalator. A cleaning carriage is guided parallel to the top flange and the bottom flange of the support structure and is reciprocated by a cable drive in the direction of the escalator inclination between the support structure and the glass lining. A cleaning liquid distributor uniformly distributes cleaning liquid at the inner surfaces of the glass lining. A wiper blade is mounted at the cleaning carriage and presses against the inner surface of the glass lining. During the reciprocation of the cleaning carriage the wiper blade wipingly moves along the glass lining. The excess cleaning liquid and the cleaning liquid which accumulates during the wiping of the glass lining is received and drained by a lower one of guide rails at which the cleaning carriage is guided.
