Abstract: A system and method for programming a wireless network access device which has both a keypad for manually entering data and commands to the device, and a device Input/Output data interface bus port for communicating data and command signals between an external source and the device databus including a module having a processor that contains and operates in accord with a control program. The processor further has in memory, prestored data and command signals necessary for programming the device. A cable, or connector couples the module to the device Input/Output data interface bus port for transferring information between the module processor and the device databus. The processor control program transfers data and command signals stored in the module's memory to the device databus for at least partially programming the device.

Abstract: A system for connecting a plurality of cellular telephones, each responsive to device-specific command signals for its operation, to an automotive electronics and communications system through a bus connector having a known universal signal format, includes a docking station having a cradle member shaped for receiving at least one cellular telephone. An interface unit contains the hardware and firmware drivers necessary for controlling the selected cellular telephone. A user selected cable having a specific signal path configuration selects the needed drivers. A second cable connects the interface unit with the bus connector for communicating signals therebetween.

Abstract: In a wireless network access device, access to which is controlled by a control program retained in a memory in the device, a method of preventing unauthorized access to the device comprising the steps of: storing in the memory of the device, data representing a key code and an access enabling code; reading the key code from the device and generating, in accord with a known method, an access code based thereon; and, comparing the access code with the access enabling code and, if equal, enabling access to the device, otherwise denying access to the device. The invention also includes a system and a wireless network access device both of which prevent unauthorized access for reprogramming purposes.

Abstract: A system and method for the automatic remote activation of the cellular telephone with the carrier, includes a central processing unit containing and operating in accord with a control program. The central processing unit has, in a memory, a plurality of hardware and firmware drivers having, respectively, the operating circuitry and commands necessary for controlling a selected cellular telephone. The control program operates to select a desired one pair of hardware and firmware drivers for activation programming of the cellular telephone. An input device is connected to the central processing unit, for manually entering data thereinto. A cable connects the central processing unit to the Input/Output data interface bus port of the cellular telephone unit for transferring data therebetween. A modem connects the central processing unit with the authorizing computer of the selected carrier for transferring data therebetween.

Abstract: A mast radiator is affixed to a glass or other non conductive exterior panel of a vehicle and is provided with a dipole element and one or more parasitic elements to exchange signals, with gain, between the mast and the antenna of a portable cellular telephone unit within the vehicle. In the preferred embodiment, a separate base unit with parasitic elements is mounted on the same glass panel on the opposite surface and opposite the base of the mast radiator.

Abstract: An electrical connector assembly has base and pedestal members designed to connect an electronic device and accessory, and includes spring-loaded pins cooperating with recesses to maintain a selected rotational position therebetween, while permitting manual rotation of the pedestal member relative to the base member.

Abstract: An auxiliary fuse block for use with an automotive electrical system having a battery and an integral fuse block including, in combination, a housing of electrically non-conductive material having disposed therein an electrically conducting bus bar and a plurality of recesses. Each of the recesses is adapted to releasably retain therein a fuse. Each of the fuses have a first end electrically connected to the bus bar and a second opposite end electrically connected to an electrically isolated binding post. The bus bar is directly electrically connected to the battery in parallel with the integral fuse block. The housing has at least one hole in it adapted to receive a fastener, as a bolt or a screw, for releasably attaching the housing to the car body. A transparent cover is provided to protect the fuses and permit their inspection while in the housing.
