  • Patent number: 5275714
Abstract: A method of producing an absorber layer for solar cells by electrolytic dispersion deposition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 1992
Date of Patent: January 4, 1994
    Assignee: Battelle Memorial Institute
Inventors: Dieter Bonnet, Josef Ehrhardt, Gert Hewig
  • Patent number: 4974942
Abstract: An active flat-design video screen is described, having signal line means arranged in lines and columns, these signal line means, at their crossing points, defining picture elements of the video screen, in which case the lines that are arranged in columns are developed as electrodes and the signal line means that are arranged in lines are developed by means of optical waveguides into which, on the input side, a modulated light signal is coupled and which, at each crossing point, have a device for the coupling-out of the respective light signal. In comparison to conventional active flat-design video screens, the video screen according to the invention distinguishes itself particularly by a good picture resolution and a good contrast range, connected with a good regeneration rate.

  • Patent number: 4707561
Abstract: In order to provide an uncomplicated and economical front surface contact for photovoltaic cells (10) with good current discharge capability and high radiation permeability, the front surface contact (20) is composed of several layer (22, 24, 26) which are essentially unaligned with respect each other. The layers (22, 24, 26) are composed of different materials, which guarantes good ohmic coupling to the light incident semiconductor layer, good collection of free charge carriers in the semiconductor layer, and good discharge of same to a load device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 8, 1986
Date of Patent: November 17, 1987
    Assignee: Nukem GmbH
Inventors: Gert Hewig, Bernd Schurich, Jorg Worner, Hans-Werner Schock
  • Patent number: 4612410
Abstract: A contact system for thin film solar cells, which guarantees that charge carrier transport without a barrier layer takes place from the semiconductor layer facing the light source to the front contact in such a manner that, among others, long term negative influences by the front contact on the semiconductor layer will not take place. To this end the front contact is rendered passive against the semiconductor layer by modifying its chemical potential, at least in the actual contact area, to be matched to the chemical potential of the semiconductor layer, or by forming a chemically inert system acting as a reaction barrier between the front contact and the semiconductor layer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 26, 1984
Date of Patent: September 16, 1986
    Assignee: Nukem GmbH
Inventors: Gert Hewig, Hans Huschka, Bernd Schurich, Jorg Worner
  • Patent number: 4544797
Abstract: A method to prevent short-circuits or shunts in a large area thin film solar cell comprises applying, to a substrate with a first conductive electrical contact, at least one first layer comprising a p-type or n-type conductive layer and a second layer comprising an n-type or p-type conductive layer or a Schottky barrier layer. The second layer, in turn, is provided with a second conductive electrical contact. Those areas of the first conductive electrical contact which are effectively uncovered by the first layer are passivated after forming the first layer and before application of the second layer.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 1, 1985
    Assignee: NUKEM GmbH
    Inventor: Gert Hewig
  • Patent number: 4283590
Abstract: A method for the production of solar cells with a thin-layer PN heterojunction, having a cadmium sulfide layer vapor deposited on an electrically conductive support and a cuprous sulfide layer chemically produced on the cadmium sulfide layer, and having an electrically conductive grid in contact with the cuprous sulfide layer, wherein the two layers and the conductive support are formed into one structural part, and the conductive grid is formed into a second structural part including a covering glass member, and the two structural parts are adhesively joined to form a closed encapsulated cell.
