    Abstract: A manually operated candle flame extinguishing apparatus where there is a pair of arm members having flame extinguishing surface regions where there is a layer of flame extinguishing material. The flame extinguishing material reacts to the heat of the flame to emit a gaseous substances that extinguishes the flame. In one embodiment, the flame extinguishing material comprises a mixture of a bonding agent and sodium bicarbonate, with the sodium bicarbonate releasing carbon dioxide into region of the flame.
