  • Patent number: 6090273
Abstract: Used lubricating oil containing unacceptable levels of moisture and ash-forming contaminants is dried and clarified by a process that includes flash drying, heat treating at a temperature within the range of 600.degree.-700.degree. F. for 2-5 hours, and cooling the heat treated oil. Optional internal recycle of the product from each of these steps can help enhance the clarification process.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 3, 1997
Date of Patent: July 18, 2000
Assignee: U.S. Filter Recovery Services (Mid-Altantic, Inc.)
    Inventor: Geza L. Kovacs
  • Patent number: 6013174
Abstract: Simple, economical process for removing ash-formers from used oil, to reduce materially the ash content value of the reclaimed oil and enhance its value substantially.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 12, 1997
Date of Patent: January 11, 2000
Assignee: U.S. Filter Recovery Services (Mid-Atlantic, Inc.)
    Inventor: Geza L. Kovacs
  • Patent number: 5087378
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a process for enhancing the dewaterability of a waste sludge having a substantial content of water-retaining cellular structure arising from microbiological action and having a solids content of at least fifteen percent by weight. The pH of the sludge is adjusted to 4.0 or less, the sludge is subjected to heat treatment to significantly enhance its filterability, the pH is again adjusted to near neutral, the sludge is subjected to a second heat treatment step, and the sludge is filtered to a final solids content in excess of about fifty-five percent by weight.

  • Patent number: 4435306
Abstract: A non-settling, coal-water slurry stabilized with an alkali metal soap of a fatty acid. The soap stabilizing agent is preferably prepared by saponification of a fat or fatty oil of either animal or vegetable origin and is diluted with water to the desired concentration without separation of by-products such as glycerine. Thereafter, pulverized coal is added with mixing to form a pumpable slurry which is non-settling at temperatures below the soap gel point.

  • Patent number: 4248851
Abstract: This invention is directed to the oxidation of ferrous chloride in liquid aqueous solution, such as, waste HCl pickle liquor, to a solution containing ferric chloride, by intimately intermingling said ferrous chloride solution with free oxgyen in the presence of a dissolved promoter cation selected from the class consisting of ammonium, chromium, cobalt, copper, manganese, nickel, zinc and mixtures thereof at an elevated temperature between about 120.degree.-500.degree. F. for a time sufficient to obtain a ferric chloride containing solution. The invention is also directed to producing hydrochloric acid from ferric chloride solution in water by heating the liquid solution at a temperature of about 250.degree. -400.degree. F. at subatmospheric pressure, preferably, by means of hot submerged combustion gases, to obtain a hydrogen chloride gas-water vapor mixture and a bottoms aqueous slurry of iron oxide.
