  • Patent number: 6974138
Abstract: Independent wheel suspension for motor vehicles comprising: a wheel support (12) with a suspension movement and a steering movement, suspension movement guide devices including a steering element (16), elastic device (34) and shock absorbing devices (16, 26), and a control device (42, 44, 46, 40) of the wheel support steering movement. The wheel support (12) slides along steering element (16), which is slanted with respect to a vertical axis, and the steering movement control device comprises an electric actuator (42) controlled by an electronic control unit (50) arranged to correct the steering movements induced by the suspension movement.

  • Publication number: 20020163173
Abstract: A versatile vehicle frame and method of making which includes a plurality of substantially straight, horizontal members connected with connecting hips having complex geometries. All contours and curves are incorporated into these hips, thus allowing the remainder of the frame to utilize substantially straight members. The vehicle frame permits a variety of frame lengths and widths by providing a variety of straight members having differing lengths. This versatility results in significantly reduced manufacturing costs and model flexibility mid-program.

  • Publication number: 20010054801
Abstract: Independent wheel suspension for motor vehicles comprising: a wheel support (12) with a suspension movement and a steering movement, suspension movement guide devices associated to elastic devices (34) and shock absorbing devices (16, 26), and a control device (42, 44, 46, 40) of the wheel support steering movement (12). The wheel support (12) slides along a steering element (16), which is slanted with respect to a vertical axis, and the steering movement control device comprises an electric actuator (42) controlled by an electronic control unit (50) arranged to correct the steering movements induced by the suspension movement.

  • Patent number: 4911467
Abstract: A rear suspension for motor vehicles of the type with independent wheels and longitudinal arms is described. The support (2) for each rear wheel is connected to a longitudinal arm (4) articulated at its front end to the substructure of the motor vehicle. The wheel support (2) is connected to the longitudinal arm (4) by means of a pair of superposed, spaced-apart joints (16, 17) which define a steering axis of the support. The latter is also provided with an arm (19) to which a steering control rod (21) is connected. To the outer side of the longitudinal arm (4) is fixed the end of an auxiliary arm (11) which extends obliquely and forwardly and whose opposite end is articulated to the substructure of the motor vehicle by means of a connecting rod member (13). The longitudinal arm is also connected to the substructure of the motor vehicle by means of a transverse arm (23).

  • Patent number: 4903981
Abstract: A rear suspension for motor vehicles with independent wheels is described, in which the support (3) for each wheel (1) is connected to the structure (2) of the motor vehicle by means of an articulated quadrilateral system including an upper transverse member and a lower transverse member. The upper transverse member is constituted by a single transverse arm (5) articulated by a ball joint (10) to the wheel support (3). The lower transverse member is constituted by a triangular structure (6) comprising a main lower arm (7) and an auxiliary lower arm (8). This structure is also articulated to the wheel support (3) by means of a ball joint (20) which defines, together with the ball joint (10) of the upper transverse arm (5), a steering axis of the wheel. The wheel support (3) is also provided with a projecting arm (25) to which a steering control rod (22) is connected and which is in turn connected to the lower triangular structure by means of a connecting rod member (26).
