Publication number: 20230375301Abstract: An arrow rest for an archery bow can include a housing, a biasing element, and a member or wheel that rotates between states, configurations, or orientations. The member can be rotated from a first orientation to a second orientation when the archery bow is at least partially drawn. While the member is in the second orientation, the biasing element can apply a torque retaining the member in the second orientation. The member can be rotated to a third orientation and released to generate momentum. A relatively large momentum of the member causes the member to rotate from the third orientation, past the second orientation, to the first orientation. A relatively small momentum of the member can cause the member to rotate from the third orientation to the second orientation.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2023Publication date: November 23, 2023Applicant: HOYT ARCHERY, INC.Inventors: Gideon S. Jolley, Andrew L. Unsworth, Dan'l J. Anselmo

Publication number: 20230213301Abstract: An archery bow can include a riser, a first limb coupled to the riser, a second limb coupled to the riser, a string extending between the first and second limb, and Non-Newtonian material (NN material). The NN material can be incorporated into at least one of the riser, the first limb, the second limb, the string, or another component of the archery bow. The NN material can have a material property (e.g., viscosity) which varies relative to a stress or force applied to the NN material. One or more portions of NN material can additionally, or alternatively, be incorporated into a projectile (e.g., an arrow) for an archery bow, an archery target or other archery equipment.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2022Publication date: July 6, 2023Applicant: HOYT ARCHERY, INC.Inventors: Dan'l J. Patent number: 10480894Abstract: A composite string such as a bowstring or cable used in archery bows and crossbows includes multiple types of strands or multiple types of materials in its strands. The different materials or strands have different properties such as stiffness, strength, abrasion resistance, or density. The string therefore has specialized properties such as different properties when subjected to different tensile loads or optimized durability. A serving material is also used to bind strands of material to the string for silencing, vibration dampening, improving durability, or providing additional rigidity to select portions of the string.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2018Date of Patent: November 19, 2019Assignee: Hoyt Archery, Inc.Inventors: Gideon S. Jolley, John Christopher Webster

Patent number: 10359252Abstract: An archery bow adjuster includes first and second adjuster portions. The first portion is configured to mount to one of a bowstring and a cable. The second portion is configured to mount to the one of the bowstring and the cable. The first portion is rotatable relative to the second portion to adjust a length of the one of the bowstring and the cable of an archery bow.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: July 23, 2019Assignee: HOYT ARCHERY, INC.Inventors: Daniel D. Ady, Gideon S. Jolley

Publication number: 20160097612Abstract: A compound archery bow having a reverse-pivot cable guard, wherein the cable guard has a first cantilever member connected to a riser at a proximal end and extending away from the riser at a distal end and a second cantilever member attached to the distal end of the first cantilever member and extending back toward the riser. The proximal end of the second cantilever member retains a bow cable such that when the bow is drawn, the second cantilever member flexes toward the plane of arrow flight and the bowstring and away from the riser. This design may reduce stresses on the cable guard, reverse torque on the riser, and improve cable life, among other benefits.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 3, 2014Publication date: April 7, 2016Applicant: Hoyt Archery, Inc.Inventors: Brian Gold, Dan'l J. Anselmo, Gideon S. Jolley

Patent number: 9010307Abstract: A traditional archery bow assembly includes a handle assembly, a bowstring, and a first limb bolt assembly. The handle assembly includes a riser, an upper limb, and a lower limb, wherein the upper and lower limbs each include a distal end and a proximal end connected to the riser. The bowstring extends between the distal ends of the upper and lower limbs. The first limb bolt assembly is operable to connect one of the upper and lower limbs to the riser. The first limb bolt assembly includes a shank portion and a head portion, wherein the head portion defines a contact surface that faces and contacts the one of the upper and lower limbs, and is pivotable relative to the shank portion.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2011Date of Patent: April 21, 2015Assignee: Hoyt Archery, Inc.Inventors: Gideon S. Jolley, Douglas E. Denton

Patent number: 7793646Abstract: A bowstring suppression device can be coupled to a bow to reduce the sound produced by the bowstring when the bow is drawn and released. The bowstring suppression device may include a cushion portion that is positioned adjacent to the bowstring when the bow is in an undrawn configuration. When the bow is drawn and released, the bowstring contacts the bowstring suppression device thereby deadening residual movement of the bowstring and reducing the sound generated by the bowstring.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2007Date of Patent: September 14, 2010Assignee: Hoyt Archery, Inc.Inventors: Darin B. Cooper, Gideon S. Jolley, Randy J. Walk
