Abstract: A drug delivery device includes a compartment sized to receive a cartridge. The compartment includes a cartridge bay that opens so that a cartridge may be inserted into the cartridge bay and that closes when the cartridge is received by the compartment. The drug delivery device also includes a housing including an expanding assembly. The expanding assembly includes a driver supported from a distal end by a linear stabilizer that includes a bearing configured to push against the housing. The driver is rotated by a motor. The expanding assembly also includes two mid screws threadedly connected to the driver, a plunger driver threadedly connected to the two mid screws, and an anti-rotational guide that prevents rotation of the plunger driver.

Abstract: In some embodiments a system and method are described for safeguarding a hazard. The hazard, for example a needle point, may be moved between a protected retracted position, an active extended position and/or an intermediate position. Optionally in the retracted position, the hazard may be protected inside a housing. Optionally in the extended position, the hazard may be exposed. Optionally, in the intermediate position the hazard may be partially protected and/or concealed, for example by a shield and/or in an indentation. In some embodiments, compromising a shield causes the hazard to be retracted to the retracted position.

Abstract: An injector includes an injector housing and a cartridge door movably mounted to the injector housing between a fully closed position and an open position. A latching mechanism is movable between a latched position, locking the cartridge door to the injector housing in the fully closed position thereof, and an unlatched position, unlocking the cartridge door from the injector housing, thereby enabling movement of the cartridge door toward the open position. The latching mechanism is oriented in the unlatched position when the cartridge door is empty and the latching mechanism is configured to move to the latched position solely when a cartridge is present in the cartridge door and the cartridge door is subsequently moved to the fully closed position thereof.

Abstract: A modular drive train is selectively securable within a wearable injector. The drive train includes a chassis and a telescoping driving assembly mounted within the chassis. The driving assembly includes a first shaft rotatable relative to the chassis, and a second shaft connected with the first shaft and axially movable relative thereto. Rotation of the first shaft axially drives the second shaft. The chassis includes one of a bearing and an elastically expandable collar projecting axially forward into the chassis from a rear end thereof, and the first shaft includes the other of the bearing and the elastically expandable collar projecting axially rearwardly from a rear end thereof. The collar is configured to elastically snap over an interference element of the bearing, whereby engagement of the collar with the bearing axially secures the first shaft to the chassis and permits rotation of the first shaft about the bearing.

The injector includes an injector housing and an injector door movably mounted to the injector housing between a fully closed position and a fully open position. The hub and the needle are axially translatable between retracted and injection positions. A needle shield, having an aperture, is movably connected to the housing between first and second positions. The needle extends through the needle shield aperture in the injection position of the needle and the first position of the needle shield, and the needle is blocked from extending through the needle shield aperture in the second position of the needle shield. When the needle shield is in the second position and the hub and the needle are in the injection position, the needle shield covers the tip of the needle and subsequent movement of the needle shield toward the first position axially translates the hub and the needle back toward the retracted position.
