Patent number: 6936577Abstract: A particulate laundry detergent composition which comprises a detergent base powder comprising surfactant and builder and, as separate particulate components: (a) an alkali metal carbonate salt selected from carbonate, bicarbonate, sesquicarbonate and combinations thereof; and (b) a water-soluble organic acid which, when reacted with (a) in the presence of water, generates carbon dioxide gas; wherein the alkali metal carbonate salt, when taken separately, has a 90% dissolution time of less than 15 seconds, preferably less than 10 seconds, more preferably less than 7 seconds; and the water-soluble organic acid has a d50 particle size which is in the range of from 150 to 1500 microns. The alkali metal carbonate salt preferably has an average bulk density of at most 1000 g/l, preferably at most 800 g/l, more preferably at most 600 g/l. The alkali metal carbonate salt preferably has a d50 particle size of at most 250 microns, preferably from 1 to 200 microns, more preferably from 10 to 150 microns.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2002Date of Patent: August 30, 2005Assignee: Unilever Home Products and Care USA, division of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Prasanna Rao Dontula, Alyn James Parry, Catherine Maria Powell, Karen Robinson, Wiebe Schokker, Gilbert Martin Verschelling, Pieter Broer van der Weg

Patent number: 6369020Abstract: A free-flowing granular detergent component comprises a high level (at least 30 wt %) of a heat-sensitive surfactant, preferably an alkyl ether sulphate; a water-insoluble silica or silicate carrier material of high oil absorption capacity; and a film-forming or crystal-forming structurant. The granular component may be used in conjunction with one or more other granular components containing surfactant and/or detergency builder, to form a particulate laundry detergent composition. The granular component is preferably prepared by mixing and granulation in a high- or moderate-shear mixer and drying in a fluidized bed.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1999Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: Unilever Home & Personal Care USAInventors: Reinhard Kohlus, Remy Antal Verburgh, Gilbert Martin Verschelling

Patent number: 6303558Abstract: A particulate detergent composition or component of high bulk density (at least 600 g/l), comprising at least 10% by weight of detergent surfactant and from 10 to 70% by weight of detergency builder, is composed of at least two, and preferably at least three, different granular components: (i) granules comprising at least 60% by weight of anionic surfactant, (ii) granules comprising at least 20% by weight of nonionic surfactant, and less than 10% by weight of aluminosilicate. (iii)optionally, granules comprising detergency builder.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1998Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: Lever Brothers Co., division of ConopcoInventors: William Derek Emery, Pauline Farnworth, Georgina Hawkes, Terry Instone, Seeng Djiang Liem, John Lloyd, Gilbert Martin Verschelling
