  • Patent number: 9810030
Abstract: A housing for a mud motor is disclosed. The housing comprises a female member comprising a female mating section and a male member comprising a male mating section and a housing section. The male mating section is matingly received within the female mating section. The collar is positioned on the housing section. The collar is made up of a framework with a plurality of discrete bodies spaced about the framework and a portion of each of the discrete bodies protrudes above the framework.

Inventors: Aaron W. Logan, Kevin Kalman, Vincent Gille Berube, Daniel W. Ahmoye
  • Patent number: 9670737
Abstract: A mud motor has integrated rotatable reamer elements. The reamer elements may be located directly radially outwardly of a rotor of the mud motor on an outer surface of the mud motor. The reamer elements may be applied to provide one or more of sizing a wellbore, smoothing a wellbore and stabilizing a bottom hole assembly and/or drill bit during drilling. The reamer elements may project from pockets formed in an outside surface of the mud motor. Axes of rotation of the reamer elements may be parallel to and/or skewed relative to a longitudinal centerline of the mud motor. Reamer devices that connect at couplings between drill string sections may be used together with the mud motor or applied separately of the mud motor. The reamer devices include inwardly-projecting elements that engage gaps between the drill string sections.

  • Patent number: 4765245
Abstract: A firing assembly for a hard target penetrating warhead is described. The firing assembly includes a safety and arming device with a truncated rotor that is normally retained in a safety position by its setback weight. On acceleration, the setback weight releases the rotor for rotation into a firing position where a pyrotechnical train carried by the rotor is aligned with the firing pin. To prevent over penetration of the pyrotechnical train by the firing pin on high deceleration, the firing pin has a striker with a radial flange that is captive in a chamber in the striker carrier. To prevent retrograde rotation of the rotor to its safety position or high deceleration of the warhead, such as in penetrating a hard target, the bore in the rotor accommodating the pyrotechnical train is chamfered at the entrance end to provide a camming surface that can be engaged by a tapered face on the front of the firing pin. This allows the firing pin to cam the rotor back into position when it has become displaced.

  • Patent number: 4633782
Abstract: A conversion assembly for converting a practice warhead (10) into an armour penetrating warhead (30) is disclosed. The practice warhead (10) is the type having a plastic shell (11) with sockets (20,22) at both ends for receiving a metal ballast, such as a steel rod (24). The conversion assembly consists of a penetrator rod (32) of heavy metal with an outside diameter (D.sub.R) substantially less than the inside diameter of the sockets (20,22) in the shell (11) and two adaptor cups (34) of elastomeric material that are stretched over the ends of the penetrator rod (32) and then fitted into the sockets in the shell. The adaptor cups (34) each have, in the relaxed state, a substantially uniform peripheral wall thickness, an inner diameter slightly less than the outside diameter (D.sub.R) of the penetrator rod (32) and an outside diameter slightly less than the inside diameter of the sockets (20,22) in the shell (11).

  • Patent number: 4498396
Abstract: The invention disclosed relates to an inexpensive practice warhead for use in conjunction with combat rockets. The novel warhead is basically the same configuration and weight as conventional metal warheads, but is constructed of an inexpensive plastic material, the weight difference being made up by providing ballast means within the hollow core of the warhead.
