Patent number: 8550391Abstract: A cutting tooth having a blade-like cutting section and a mounting section extending down from the bottom of the cutting section. The mounting section is narrower and shorter than the cutting section, and generally centered with respect to the cutting section. The mounting section has laterally extending flanges spaced from the cutting section. At least a quarter of the cutting section extends past the front of the mounting section and terminating in a cutting edge. The cutting tooth is adapted to be mounted in a mounting block to form a cutting assembly. The mounting block has a slot extending into the block from the front face, the slot open in the top surface of the block. The mounting section of the tooth slides into the slot in the block to locate the cutting section on the top of the block with the cutting section projecting forwardly of the block. The flanges on the tooth hold the tooth in place in the block against centrifugal forces.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2010Date of Patent: October 8, 2013Inventors: Laurent Denis, Gilles Denis

Publication number: 20120067188Abstract: A rotary cutter for a brush cutter. The cutter has a rotatable cylindrical drum with a plurality of flat, annular, collars mounted on the drum. The collars are fastened to the drum by their inner circular edge, are equally spaced apart on the drum, and extend transverse to the rotational axis of the drum. A cutting tooth mounting block is mounted between each adjacent pair of collars, the block located at the outer edge of the collars and spaced above the surface of the drum to provide a gap for passing chips and residue. The mounting block carries a detachable cutting tooth, the tooth extending forwardly generally tangentially from the block and terminating in a cutting edge above the collars.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 28, 2010Publication date: March 22, 2012Inventors: Gilles Denis, Laurent Denis

Patent number: 6764035Abstract: A brush cutting head having a cylindrical, tubular, support base. A plurality of cutting tooth mounting blocks are fixedly mounted on the cylindrical outer surface of the base, the blocks extending transverse to the longitudinal axis of the base, each block having a front face and sides. A cutting tooth is provided for each mounting block, each cutting tooth made from a plate having a uniform thickness with an inner surface and an outer surface. Each tooth has a straight, relatively long, base section and a straight, relatively short, cutting section bent from one end of the base section toward the inner surface to form an obtuse angle between the inner surface of the base section and the inner surface of the cutting section. Each tooth is mounted on the block with the base section of the tooth adjacent the front face of the block and the base section extending outwardly from the base, and with the cutting section above the block and extending forwardly from the base section of the tooth.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2002Date of Patent: July 20, 2004Inventors: Gilles Denis, Laurent Denis
