Patent number: 6584923Abstract: The invention concerns an autonomous container ship comprising a bottom, a propulsion system, a loading and unloading system for loading and unloading containers, a balancing system, characterized in that the bottom has a hull incorporating a propulsion system and the ship comprises a carrying system for transporting containers from important ports equipped with facilities for loading and unloading containers to small ports not provided with such equipment and less than 4 meters deep. The ship includes a propulsion system ensuring the ship's cruising speed on the high seas and its speed in estuaries and ports, a loading and unloading system adapted to ports not provided with appropriate equipment, and a balancing system for balancing the ship at sea providing stability and trim during container handling operations.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1999Date of Patent: July 1, 2003Assignee: Etat Francais represente par le Delegue General pour l'ArmamentInventors: Jean-Yves Le Lan, Olivier De Smirnoff, Daniel Person, Christian Gilles Fournier

Patent number: 6321673Abstract: The invention concerns an autonomous container ship comprising a hull, a propulsion system, loading and unloading systems for loading and unloading containers, and a balancing system. The ship transports containers from larger ports equipped with facilities for loading and unloading containers to smaller ports which may not provide such equipment and may be less than 4 meters deep. The ship includes a propulsion system to propel the ship to cruising speed on the high seas and at lower speeds in estuaries and ports, loading and unloading systems adapted to ports not provided with appropriate equipment, and a balancing system for balancing the ship at sea by providing stability and trim during container handling operations.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1999Date of Patent: November 27, 2001Assignee: Etat Francais represente par le Delegue General pour l'ArmamentInventors: Jean-Yves Lelan, Olivier De Smirnoff, Daniel Person, Christian Gilles Fournier

Patent number: 6281487Abstract: A device for protecting an optical system against the excess luminosity of an incident light beam. The device forms first and second light beams from an incident light beam. A mirror reflects the first beam which is then guided toward the optical system. The mirror includes a reflecting layer capable of being ablated, at least locally, when it is subjected to high luminous intensity. The second beam initiates the ablation process of the reflecting layer, which is continued and completed by the joint action of the first and second light beams.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1999Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignee: Aerospatiale Societe Nationale IndustrielleInventors: Christophe Hubert-Habart, Gilles Fournier

Patent number: 6054006Abstract: A method and apparatus for labeling a metallic container, such as an aluminum collapsible tube (empty and open-ended for filling by the purchaser) with a flexible label, which is especially suited to short production runs and in such a manner that the label is bonded to the container such that it is able to withstand physical abuse without peeling or breaking away from the container. Both the label and unlabeled container may be manufactured in advance and stored until needed. The container comprises an enamel coating which is bonded to the surface of the container, the coating comprising an adhesive which is activated within a predetermined temperature range, and the label comprises a transparent film having reverse printing on the lower surface thereof. The enamel coating is heated to a temperature within the activating temperature range to cause the adhesive to activate. The lower surface of the label is contacted to the heated enamel coating under sufficient pressure to cause the label to bond thereto.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1997Date of Patent: April 25, 2000Assignee: Great Pacific Enterprises, Inc., through its division, Montebello PackagingInventors: Betty Jean Pilon, Gilles Fournier, Terrence Doherty
