  • Patent number: 10282038
Abstract: This invention relates to methods, apparatus, and computer program code for processing acoustic signal data to determine where an object has been tapped with a stylus, finger nail or the like. The method involved storing a set of labelled training data comprising digitized waveforms from a sensor for taps at a plurality of different locations. The labelled training data is then processed to determine mean value and covariance data for the waveforms, which is afterwards used in conjunction with a digitized waveform of a tap at an unknown location to identify the location of the tap. Preferably the covariance is decomposed into a plurality of basis functions for each region each with a respective weighting, which are used to represent captured data for an unknown tap and parameters of the representation are classified to locate the tap.

  • Patent number: 8451254
Abstract: An electronic device, comprising a processing system; a sensor for detecting vibrations caused by a user striking the device and outputting a signal indicative of a parameter of those vibrations; wherein the processing system is configured to analyse the signal output from the sensor and determine a parameter related to the location of the strike. Other methods and systems for making inputs to electronic devices are also described.

  • Publication number: 20100037968
Abstract: A system for varying the deadweight of apparatus incorporates a fluid coupling (10) and fluid flow control valve. The fluid coupling comprises first and second connectors (20, 30) each configured for attachment (at respective ends 21 and 31) to respective fluid conduits (not shown), for example hydraulic hoses. Each connector (20,30) has a cylindrical body (3,3) configured to rotate about the longitudinal axis A having a bore or lumen (22,32) for fluid flow therethrough in a predetermined orientation as indicated by arrows D. Registration of the respective lumens (22,32) at ends (23,33) of the connectors permits fluid to flow between the connectors (20,30) at maximum rate when lumens (22,32) are aligned with apertures (24?,34)? , fluid to be stopped when lumens butt against shutters (24,34), and fluid to flow at intermediate rate when lumens are registered in intermediate positions.

  • Patent number: 6321854
Abstract: A percussion power tool assembly (10) comprises a hand-held percussion power tool (11), a chamber (12) mounted on the tool (11), and a fluid reservoir (14) supported independently of the tool (11). The percussion power tool (11) has a body (20) housing a reciprocating hammer (22) which impacts against tool bit (24) in a conventional manner. The hammer (22) is operated by compressed air admitted though valve (26) in feed line (28). The chamber (12) communicates with the fluid reservoir (14) though flexible hose (16). The chamber (12) surrounds the body (20) and has a flexible lining (30) defining a bladder which inflates/deflates in sympathy with fluid filling, or emptying from, the chamber. The deadweight of the hand-held part (18) of the assembly (that is, the tool and chamber combined) is varied by transferring fluid, e.g. water, in the reservoir (14) to the chamber (12), and reduced by returning transferred fluid to the reservoir (14).
