  • Patent number: 8264971
Abstract: A method and system for managing resources in telecommunications services and networks. The method and system regard execution of processes by distributed agents on processing machines to perform predetermined tasks on the network, and are characterized by setting target data including goals on processes and constraints on resource utilization to be met by the system; monitoring computational resources utilization and processes execution by agents, and collecting performance data representative of resource utilization and process execution; comparing the collected performance data with the set data, a penalty being established when performance data do not fulfill target data; and re-allocating resources for process execution by agents so as to minimize the penalty determined on the basis of the comparison.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 28, 2004
Date of Patent: September 11, 2012
    Assignee: Telecom Italia S.p.A.
Inventors: Rosario Alfano, Fabrizio Bobbio, Giuseppe Cassone, Giuseppe Covino, Danilo Gotta, Marisa Porta, Marco Ughetti
  • Patent number: 7933988
Abstract: An arrangement which jointly exploits an agent component installed in a server-side portion of client-server architecture for emulating requests of actual clients of the client-server architecture and measuring a server execution time indicative of a time elapsed between reception of an emulated end-user request at a server component and generation of a result of said emulated end-user request at said server component; information stored in a server log file about a hit end to end response time, i.e., the time elapsed between the instant in which the end-user sends a request to the server component and the instant in which result of the request reaches the end-user. From the server execution time and the hit response time, the delay due to the network connecting the server-side portion of the client-server architecture to a client-side portion may be determined.
