  • Patent number: 9440418
Abstract: Wood-based composites, and methods for their manufacture, are provided. The composites include oriented wooden strands and cured bonding resin connecting adjacent strands. The composites are relatively low-density, having an average dry density of the wooden composites of about 15-28 pounds per cubic foot (pcf). The unique composition of the composites provide improved structural and insulating (thermal and acoustic) properties when compared to traditional engineered wood products (e.g., oriented strandboard).

  • Patent number: 7712282
Abstract: A shear brace assembly is provided which laterally braces wall lines within a structure, such as a house or other residential construction, while also providing vertical and out-of-plane load carrying capacity. The assembly consists of one or more wood-based panel(s) which are rigidly connected to concrete, masonry or wood support material directly below or above the shear brace assembly bearing surface. The term “wood-based” should be interpreted to mean that the panel may be constructed from a natural wood, or partially or wholly from an engineered wood, such as Timberstrand®, Parallam®, or the like. Ductile anchorage assemblies are used below, and in some applications, above the individual panels.

  • Publication number: 20060144008
Abstract: The present invention is a raised floor assembly efficiently connecting a pre-fabricated shear wall to a foundation in applications other than slab-on-grade. The raised floor assembly includes an engineered wood material block machined to accept a connecting rod therethrough. The raised floor assembly also includes a connecting rod that is configured to attach at one end to a pre-fabricated shear wall and is coupled at the other end to an anchor bolt. Additionally, a transfer plate may be positioned between the pre-fabricated shear wall and the top of the engineered wood material block. The transfer plate provides a bearing surface for the pre-fabricated shear wall and helps maintain connecting rod alignment. A transfer plate may also be provided underneath the engineered wood material block and above the foundation. Additionally, a variety of spacers may be provided between the bottom of the engineered wood material block and the foundation.

  • Publication number: 20060127633
Abstract: A reinforced wood product and methods for reinforcing a wood product are provided. In a first method of manufacture, one or more cords are placed between a first wood layer and a second wood layer in a continuous length. The cords may be constructed from metal, plastic, rubber, or the like. The wood layers and the cords are compressed to form a floor panel or a wall panel. In a second method of manufacture, one or more cords are applied to separate wood sections of a first wood layer. Separate wood sections of a second wood layer are aligned with the wood sections of the first layer to form lap joints in a staggered formation. The first wood sections, cords and second wood sections are then compressed to form a wood product, such as a wall panel or floor panel.
