Patent number: 7228626Abstract: A mandrel, useful in high voltage cable splicing and termination operations, having a tapered surface and longitudinal ribs for assembly onto a high-voltage cable to be connected to a premolded or extruded high-voltage component. As the premolded high-voltage component is passed over the mandrel, the mandrel expands the internal cavity of the high-voltage component and may further reduce the loss of lubrication within the internal cavity of the high-voltage component thereby allowing for the high voltage component to be easily installed onto the high-voltage cable. After the high voltage component passes over the apparatus, the high-voltage component may return to a lesser-expanded shape providing a snug fit around the cable member. The high-voltage component may then compress around the cable, with a uniform layer of lubricant remaining in between interior cavity of the high-voltage component and the outer layer of the cable.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2004Date of Patent: June 12, 2007Assignee: Richard's Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Glenn J. Patent number: 6991484Abstract: The present invention relates to a cable termination system for connection of a cylindrical member, such as a cable, within a housing containing multiple bores. One or more bores of the housing are held in a radially expanded state by one or more retaining devices. The cable may be coupled to a coupling device, such as a metallic lug, and inserted into a first bore such that a connection is made with a first mating device inserted into a second bore. Additionally, a second mating device may be inserted into a third bore to finalize the connection. After the connection is completed, each retaining device is de-coupled from its respective bore causing the housing surrounding the bore to contract to its original state, thereby forming a tight seal between the housing and the cable or mating device.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2004Date of Patent: January 31, 2006Assignee: Rcihards Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Glenn J. Patent number: 6075209Abstract: An insulating cap for a loadbreak bushing includes an outer conductive jacket preferably having a ground wire receiving member thereon. The ground wire receiving member may be in the form of an integral tab having a bore therethrough for connection of the ground wire. The insulating cap further includes an insulation member positioned in adjacent relationship to the inner surface of the conductive jacket. In a preferred embodiment, both the inner surface of the conductive jacket and the inner exterior surface of the insulation member includes a smooth, dome-shaped region which helps to control electrical stresses, if any. The inner surface of the insulation member defines a bushing receiving space which substantially corresponds to the exterior shape of a loadbreak bushing. When properly grounded, the outer conductive jacket of the insulating cap is maintained at ground potential.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1998Date of Patent: June 13, 2000Assignee: Thomas & Betts InternationalInventor: Glenn J. Patent number: 4955823Abstract: A high voltage cable is fixed to the single leg of a 600-Amp "T" connector having a first of its cross bar arms mounted upon an insulating bushing fixed to a wall of the apparatus housing it is to serve. Spaced apart from such insulating bushing and mounted upon the same wall is an apparatus bushing to which is connected a bushing extender. An "h" shaped link member is employed to couple the cable via the other of its "T" connector cross bar arms to the apparatus bushing via the bushing extender. One of the short arms of the link member contains a pin/socket arrangement to make an electrical connection with the cable. The remaining short arm contains a screw-operated member operated by a tool inserted through the single long arm to make and break electrical and mechanical connections between the link member and the bushing extender. When removed, the link member not only interrupts the circuit but provides a visual indication thereof.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1989Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: Amerace CorporationInventor: Glenn J. Patent number: 4891016Abstract: An apparatus bushing is fixed to a support wall or the wall of the apparatus housing and is electrically coupled to the apparatus within. A high voltage cable is fixed to the single leg of a 600-Amp "T" connector and is supported only by a bracket extending from said apparatus bushing to one of the "T" legs. A removable pin-and-socket applied link member selectively couples the remaining "T" leg to the apparatus bushing whereby power passes between the apparatus and high voltage cable only when said link is present and isolates said cable and apparatus when it is absent. A novel operating assembly assures proper contact between the link sockets and the pins of the apparatus bushing extender and the 600-Amp "T" connector and can be arranged to positively separate the link assembly. The operating assembly can also be used to install and remove a cap assembly when the electrical link is not in place.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1989Date of Patent: January 2, 1990Assignee: Amerace CorporationInventors: Glenn J.
