  • Patent number: 9307656
Abstract: A case configured to protect at least a portion of an electronic device. The case can comprise a first portion and a second portion that connect to one another via a hinge. The first portion can be configured to cover a first portion of a back side of the electronic device when fully installed on the electronic device. The second portion can be configured to cover a remaining portion of the back side of the electronic device when also fully installed on the electronic device. The second portion and the first portion can pivot with respect to one another via the hinge. Accordingly, by one approach, the second portion can be pivoted away from the electronic device while the first portion remains installed on the electronic device. In such a case, and by one approach, the second portion can serve as a stand for the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 8990264
Abstract: A method for managing storage functions in a data replication environment is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes continually monitoring for changes to a storage configuration at a secondary site. Upon detecting changes to the storage configuration at the secondary site, the method transmits remote metadata describing the changes to the primary site and stores the remote metadata at the primary site. The method then initiates a storage management function at the primary site which is mirrored to the secondary site. In order to perform the storage management function, the method reads the remote metadata at the primary site to determine the storage configuration at the secondary site. The method then performs the storage management function at the primary site in a way that takes into account the storage configuration at the secondary site.

  • Patent number: 8489856
Abstract: Provided are a system and article of manufacture for providing an address format compatible with different addressing formats used for addressing different sized address spaces. An address format is used in an operating system to address storage space in a storage device comprising a first region and a second region of storage space. A first group of applications uses the address format to only address the storage space in the first region and is not coded to use the address format to access the second region and a second group of applications uses the address format to address the storage space in the first and second regions.

  • Publication number: 20120226877
Abstract: Provided is a method for maintaining mirror and storage system copies of volumes at multiple remote sites. A first server maintains a mirror copy relationship between a first storage system at a first site and a second storage system at a second site. The first server performs a first point-in-time copy operation from the first storage system to a first storage system copy, wherein the data for the first storage system copy is consistent as of the determined point-in-time. The first server transmits a command to a second server to create a point-in-time copy of the second storage system. The second server processes mirror data transferred from the first server as part of the mirror copy relationship to determine when to create a second point-in-time copy. The second server performs the second point-in-time copy operation.

  • Publication number: 20120079224
Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for maintaining mirror and storage system copies of volumes at multiple remote sites. A first server maintains a mirror copy relationship in a computer readable storage medium between a first storage system at a first site and a second storage system at a second site to mirror data at the first storage system to the second storage system, wherein the first and second sites connect over a network. The first server performs a first point-in-time copy operation from the first storage system to a first storage system copy, wherein the data for the first storage system copy is consistent as of the determined point-in-time, wherein the point-in-time copy operation is completed upon creating a data structure indicating data for the first storage system copy as located at the first storage or the first storage system copy. The first server transmits a command to a second server to create a point-in-time copy of the second storage system.

  • Patent number: 8066562
Abstract: A method of simulating a traditional casino roulette game experience using a specially designed deck of thirty eight (38) playing cards to determine a winning number rather than via a spin of the roulette wheel. The deck includes one card for each single unique number from the roulette wheel, i.e. 00, 0, and numbers 1-36. The deck is shuffled so that the cards are drawn at random to simulate a spin of the roulette wheel. The dealer activates the shuffler to draw a card from the shuffled deck. A bar code on the drawn card is read into a computer via a scanner. Scanning the card activates the computer to provide a visual representation of a spin of the roulette wheel on a monitor located near the roulette table. The visualization shows the ball landing on the unique number of the roulette wheel dictated by the drawn card.

  • Patent number: 7870595
Abstract: The present disclosure describes apparatus, methods, and system for secure access control of an intelligent electronic device (“IED”) by multiple personnel. Within the IED a set of basic permissions is defined. A software program allows a security administrator create specific roles from the basic permissions. The software program can then be used to assign to a user a specific role for one or more specific IEDs. This action creates a set of unique security keys for the user and a unique security file for each IED. When a user accesses an IED the system identifies the user from the security key and determines his/her permissions using the security file. The security key may take the form of a password inputted into the IED, an access device incorporated within the IED, and/or a remote access device positioned proximate the IED or removably positioned in the IED.

  • Patent number: 7669854
Abstract: A method of simulating a traditional craps game experience using a specially designed deck of thirty six (36) playing cards to determine play rather than rolling dice. The deck of playing cards includes one card for each possible roll combination of a pair of dice. The deck is shuffled so that the cards are drawn at random to simulate a player rolling dice. The stickman activates the shuffler to draw a card from the shuffled deck. A bar code on the drawn card is read into a computer via a scanner and the computer then provides a visual representation of a dice roll on the monitors provided on either end of the craps table with the visualization showing the dice landing on the roll combination dictated by the drawn card. The display is activated when the shooter rolls the trackball mouse.
