    Abstract: An adapter unit for a portable radio telephone is disclosed. The adapter unit is selectively used for either one of the data transmission and the hand-free operation in response to a control signal from the portable radio telephone. The signal paths for the data transmission and the hand-free operation may be established in the adapter unit when the portable radio telephone is attached to the adapter unit. The adapter unit may be activated upon a connection of the portable radio telephone and the adapter unit.

    Abstract: An adapter unit for adaptively supplying a portable radio unit with electric power is disclosed. When the portable radio unit being not powered by a rechargeable battery attached thereto or being not in a communication state is connected to the adapter unit, the first power supply circuit of the adapter unit supplies the rechargeable battery or the portable radio unit with power. When the portable radio unit being in the communication state is connected to the adapter unit, the second power supply circuit of the adapter unit supplies the portable radio unit through the rechargeable battery with power. Power supply capacity of the second power supply circuit is larger than that of the first power supply circuit.

    Abstract: A portable radio unit used with an adaptor unit having a hand-free circuit is disclosed. The hand-free circuit is activated in response to a contact between a contact-type connector of the portable radio unit and a contact-type connector of the adaptor unit in the event that the portable radio unit being in a communication state is attached to the adapter unit. Power supply to the hand-free circuit is also initiated in response to the contact of the connectors.
