    Abstract: Novel component devices for urine management systems including a novel collection device, a novel conveyance tube, and a novel storage container. The collection device, a novel male catheter, comprises a waterproof, thin-walled conduction tube surrounding the penis, having wettable internal walls and containing a spacing wick. At one end, the conduction tube is connected to, or surrounded by, an elastic compression tube that provides a uniform compressive force around the girth of the penis for attachment and liquid seal to said penis, and at the other end is attached to a fitting that connects to the conveyance tube. The elastic compression tube is radially expanded prior to donning and, when in place over the penis, is allowed to elastically retract, providing radial compression for comfortable, and leak-free fit and use.

    Abstract: A urine management system including components in fluid wicking communication with one another—a collection device, a conveyance tube, and a storage container—is disclosed. The gender-shaped collection device has wettable internal walls and contains a spacing wick. The male collection device additionally has a compression tube that provides a uniform compressive force for attachment and seal. The conveyance tube wicks urine from the collection device to the storage container, and contains a spacer throughout its length to prevent blockage by kinks or twists. The tube adapts to human shape and movement, expands during use, and contracts during idle periods. The storage container receives urine from the conveyance tube and immobilizes it. The storage container can be reusable or disposable. It's internal structure causes uniform distribution of the urine throughout the storage container. The urine system components provide continuous wicking through special connecting devices.

The conveyance tube, a novel thin-wall, flat tube, contains a spacer throughout its length to prevent the tube lumen from being completely closed and sealed off by kinks or twists in the tube. The tube can conform to the body shape of the wearer, expands as flow rate increases, and shrinks and flattens as flow drops off.

    Abstract: A cryogenic refrigerator includes a shell having a reciprocative displacer and an adsorbent mounted within the shell. In one embodiment, the displacer contains both a regenerative media and the adsorbent, with the regenerative media placed between the adsorbent and a cold end of the displacer. In a method for removing contaminants from the reciprocative displacer, compressed and expanded helium gas is displaced through the displacer, with the adsorbent positioned to adsorb contaminant gases entrained in the helium gas. In another method, a filtering refrigerator containing an adsorbent is coupled to a helium circuit of a refrigeration system to remove contaminants from the circuit.

    Abstract: An involuntary urine control device (IUCD) having an inflatable collar membrane. The IUCD is inserted a short distance into the distal end of the urethra of a subject user. The IUCD includes the collar membrane which comprises an open ended tube of inflatable membrane material, typically about 30% to 90% of the length of the device. The collar membrane, in its inflated state, serves the purpose of providing sealing between the periphery of the urine control device and the urethra wall. The collar membrane is inflated to move radially outward once the urine control device is inserted into the distal end of the urethra of a patient by the external supply of a fluid. The collar membrane in its deflated state, namely with the inflating fluid removed, is substantially flush with the external diameters of the outer jacket of the urine control device to accommodate the thickness of the collar membrane.

    Abstract: This invention relates to an improved adiabatic process for separating hydrogen from mixed gas streams using hydridable materials as the absorbing medium. The improvement comprises utilizing a composite comprising a thermal ballast in admixture with the hydride material to absorb the heat of reaction and to aid in desorption. By virtue of the intimate contact of the ballast with the hydridable material rapid cycle times plus good bed utilization are achieved.
