  • Patent number: 9915959
Abstract: A thermostatic valve for a diesel fuel system includes a valve housing and a valve element movable within the housing between a position directing heated diesel fuel returning from an engine to the inlet of a fuel pump and a position dumping the fuel into a reservoir where the fuel mixes with lower temperature fuel. A temperature responsive thermostatic element moves the valve element in response to the temperature of the diesel fuel. A temperature relief valve is provided in the housing to dump the returning fuel into the reservoir if the temperature reaches a temperature indicating overheating of the fuel. The temperature relief valve is a bi-metal valve mounted in an end wall of the valve housing.

  • Patent number: 9097217
Abstract: Propulsion systems for vehicles are provided. The propulsion system includes an engine and a module. The module includes a fuel pump, a check valve, and a relief valve. The fuel pump is configured to supply fuel flow having a pressure. The check valve is configured to receive the fuel flow from the fuel pump, and to allow passage of the fuel flow to the engine. The relief valve is coupled to the fuel pump and configured to release a portion of the pressure of the fuel flow. The relief valve is disposed upstream of the check valve.

  • Publication number: 20130233283
Abstract: A fuel system for a diesel engine is provided that includes a fuel supply tank module for storing fuel. The fuel supply tank module includes a fuel pump module reservoir which has an in-tank low pressure lift pump and a bimetallic thermostatic flow valve. The fuel system also includes a fuel filter module for filtering fuel pumped from the fuel supply tank module, a high pressure pump for pumping fuel from the fuel filter module, a diesel engine for receiving fuel from the high pressure pump, and a fuel return line for returning fuel to the bimetallic thermostatic flow valve. The bimetallic thermostatic flow valve includes a bimetallic element in thermal communication with the returning fuel. The bimetallic element deflects in response to the thermal communication so that returning fuel flows to at least one of the fuel pump module reservoir and the in-tank low pressure lift pump.

  • Patent number: 8511283
Abstract: A diesel fuel system includes a reservoir containing diesel fuel. A suction tube extends into the reservoir and has an inlet so that fuel can be suctioned into the suction tube. A fence is erected around the inlet to prevent ice wafers from entering the inlet and blocking the suction tube. The fence can be mounted on the floor of the reservoir. Or, the fence can be mounted on the suction tube.

  • Patent number: 8372278
Abstract: A liquid fuel strainer assembly includes a filter body of filtration media. The filter body includes a first wall and an opposing second wall shaped to define an enclosed interior space therebetween. A fitting connects the filter body to a fuel pump, and provides fluid communication from the enclosed interior space of the filter body to the fuel pump. A flexible tube is disposed within the enclosed interior space of the filter body. The flexible tube prevents the first wall and the second wall from collapsing toward each other to allow fuel to flow through the enclosed interior space toward the fitting. The flexible tube is not attached to either the fitting or the filter body, and is freely moveable within the enclosed interior space of the filter body.
