  • Publication number: 20210130060
Abstract: A trifold thermoformed package with a bottom portion, a top portion and an internal portion integrally formed from a single sheet of thermoformable material. The top and bottom portions are arranged in a clamshell configuration and can be selectively closed about a first living hinge to cooperatively define an internal space for receiving items to be packaged. The internal portion is configured to fold about second living hinge into the package between the top portion and the bottom portion to form a shelf upon which items can be placed, thereby allowing two layers of items to be contained in the same package without direct stacking. The top portion may be joined to one edge of the bottom portion along a first living hinge and the internal portion may be joined to a second edge of the bottom portion along a second living hinge disposed opposite the first living hinge.

  • Publication number: 20160101907
Abstract: A package having a lid seated on a base where the edge of the seated lid is generally inaccessible due to contours in the base, and where the edge is made accessible by a tamper-evident tab arrangement. The base includes a tamper-evident tab and a fixed tab disposed on a flange extending about the base. The tamper-evident tab is joined to the base on opposite ends by a breakable land and a permanent land. The tamper-evident tab is movable by breaking the tamper-evident tab free from the base on one end by breaking the breakable land and bending the tamper-evident tab out of the way about the permanent land to provide access to the peripheral edge of the lid. The tamper-evident tab may include an extension adjacent to the breakable land and the fixed tab may include an extension adjacent to the tamper-evident tab extension opposite the breakable land.

  • Patent number: 8640914
Abstract: A tamper-evident tab construction for a thermoformed package. In one embodiment, the package includes top and bottom parts with overlapping tabs. The top and bottom parts may include locking tabs that interlock with one another and provide a structure for holding the package while it is being opened. The top part may also include a pull tab located proximate the locking tabs. The pull tab is configured to provide a structure for pulling the top part away from the bottom part to open the package. The pull tab may be joined to the top part by a small land of material that is configured to deform when the package is opened. As a result, the pull tab may remain at an angle after opening to provide a visual indication that the package may have been opened or tampered with.

  • Publication number: 20120005994
Abstract: A thermoformed clamshell package with a pair of closing flanges and a double-sided adhesive for joining the closing flanges to seal the package. The package includes a carrier flange that carries the double-sided adhesive prior to sealing and a sealing flange that is brought into contact with the double-sided adhesive to seal the package. The package may include a frangible portion in the flange region for gaining access to the contents of the package after it has been sealed without breaking the adhesive seal created by the double-sided adhesive. The carrier flange may include a channel for seating the double-sided adhesive and for denesting adjacent packages when nested together for shipping and/or storage. The package may include one or more display strips disposed in the flange region. The present invention also provides a method for packaging articles in a package with a tamper-evident seal, and a method for manufacturing a package with a tamper-evident seal.
