  • Patent number: 9612587
Abstract: A system includes an operator console having at least one graphical display configured to present information associated with an industrial process and with a control system associated with the industrial process. The system also includes a mobile extension associated with the operator console. The mobile extension is configured to present first process-related information to an operator and receive second process-related information from the operator for the control system. The operator console is configured to provide state information to the mobile extension, where the state information is associated with operations of the operator console. The mobile extension could be configured to base at least part of the first process-related information or at least part of the second process-related information on a location of the apparatus. The operator console could be configured to provide an indication that the mobile extension is currently in use by the operator.

  • Patent number: 9581993
Abstract: A system includes at least one graphical display configured to display information associated with an industrial process and with a control system associated with the industrial process. The system also includes at least one processing device configured to identify a current state of the industrial process or the control system. The system further includes an ambient display configured to generate ambient lighting having one or more characteristics based on the current state. The one or more characteristics could include a color, an intensity, and/or a speed of transitions in the ambient lighting. The color could be based on whether the industrial process is operating normally and whether the control system has generated any warnings or alarms associated with the industrial process. The ambient display can be configured to transition the ambient lighting from a first color to a second color based on a change in the current state.

  • Publication number: 20170010762
Abstract: A method of window control for display screens includes providing at least one display screen including at least a first application display window (first window), where the first window is exclusive of any dedicated area for selecting window-control functions (WCFs). A detect signal is generated responsive to detecting a mouse pointer hovering over a pre-defined trigger area of the first window. A detect signal is sent to a processor which is coupled to a display driver that is coupled to drive the display screen. Responsive to receiving the detect signal, the processor and display driver cause the displaying of a window control panel (WCP) as a popup within the first window, where the WCP includes a plurality of WCFs including at least close and maximize.

  • Publication number: 20160334770
Abstract: A method includes receiving information defining at least one condition and at least one action associated with a rule. Each condition is associated with an event in an industrial process control and automation system, and each action is associated with information related to the event. The method also includes, based on actual events in the industrial process control and automation system, generating one or more notifications for one or more users of one or more mobile devices using the rule. The method further includes transmitting the one or more notifications for delivery to the one or more mobile devices.

  • Patent number: 9344684
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for managing video data. Embodiments are described by reference to a Digital Video Management (DVM) system, for example methods for facilitating collaborative incident management. In overview, a DVM system provides a user interface, which is renderable at a plurality of client terminal. This allows an operator of each client to independently view DVM content items. In some cases the user interface is provided by components delivered to the clients via a web-server arrangement. The user interface is configured thereby to allow an operator of a first client terminal to provide a request to share a specified DVM content item with the operator of a second client terminal. In response to this request, the content item is delivered to the operator of the second client terminal.

  • Patent number: 9240164
Abstract: A method includes displaying regions in a graphical display. At least two regions correspond to different portions of a representation of an industrial process system. A thumbnail region corresponds to an entirety of the representation of the process system. A viewport region corresponds to a portion of the representation of the process system less than the entirety of the representation of the process system. The viewport region is disposed and movable within the thumbnail region. A current view region corresponds to a current view of the representation of the process system. The current view is associated with the viewport region. The method also includes, responsive to user activation, moving the viewport region within the thumbnail region and updating the current view region. The thumbnail region is configured to identify at least one fault condition indicator outside the viewport region.

  • Publication number: 20150371418
Abstract: A method includes identifying an envelope associated with a process variable in an industrial process control and automation system. The envelope is defined by an upper limit and a lower limit on the process variable. The method also includes generating a graphical display for presentation to an operator. The graphical display identifies a trend of a value of the process variable over time and the upper and lower limits of the envelope over time. The graphical display could also identify predicted upper and lower limits of the envelope a predicted target value of the process variable over a future time period. The graphical display could further identify when the value of the process variable falls outside the envelope.

  • Publication number: 20150355611
Abstract: A method includes presenting process-related information associated with an industrial process control and automation system to an operator using at least one display device and a touchscreen of an operator console. The method also includes receiving user input via the touchscreen and, based on the user input, (i) controlling the process-related information presented on the at least one display device and the touchscreen and (ii) adjusting operation of the industrial process control and automation system. For example, based on the user input, content can be moved from the display device(s) to the touchscreen or from the touchscreen to the display device(s). As another example, the operation of the industrial process control and automation system can be adjusted by receiving a new value of a process variable based on a first user input and receiving an acceptance of the new value of the process variable based on a second user input.

  • Patent number: 9152138
Abstract: A method of operating a system (e.g., an industrial pant) that runs a physical process involving a console operator and a plurality of field operators including a first field operator. The first field operator sends a wireless message that reaches the console operator. Responsive to receiving the wireless message, selected information is read from a system database including information for equipment in the system and process event data obtained from or relating to the equipment. The selected information includes the equipment which is proximate to a current location of the first field operator (proximate equipment) and process related data from the proximate equipment. The selected information is displayed on the display device viewable by the console operator. To complete a collaboration, the console operator can provide information relevant to the current location to the first field operator.

  • Patent number: 8860728
Abstract: A method includes receiving a trigger to present a balloon notification on a display. The notification is associated with an object in the display. The method also includes determining dimensions of the notification and determining a suitable location in the display for the notification. The method further includes presenting the notification in the display at the suitable location. Determining the suitable location in the display for the notification could include (i) determining whether the notification if placed proximate to a first corner of the object would be presented completely in the display, (ii) determining how many other objects in the display would be obstructed by the notification if placed proximate to the first corner of the object, and/or (iii) determining how much total area of other objects in the display would be obstructed by the notification if placed proximate to the first corner of the object.
