Abstract: A method and system for constructing a classifier for a set of records to be classified (108) into predicted classes (351-353) are provided. The set of records that are to be classified (108) are clustered into a plurality of clusters. A first classifier (106) is created that classifies records into the plurality of clusters (321-323) and the first classifier (106) is applied to a set of training records (110), each of the training records (331-334) having a predicted class (306). A classifier (107A-C) may then be created for each sub-set of training records (341-343) classed into each of the plurality of clusters and the classifier (107A-C) applied to a sub-set of records to be classified (311-313) formed in the corresponding cluster.

Abstract: An operator guidance system is provided for an administrator managing a computer network such as a distributed computer system. Fault events reported by a fault management system in the network are enhanced to include topology information about other nodes (such as neighbor nodes, path nodes and/or service nodes) that may have been responsible for the fault. The enhanced events are correlated with configuration commands used in the past to correct faults. A set of guidance rules are developed based on the actions that were taken by the operator in handling previous faults of a similar nature. The guidance rules can be displayed to the administrator to facilitate network fault resolution. Using a set of predefined policies, some of the corrective actions can be performed automatically.

Abstract: A system for modifying a rule base for use in processing data, wherein an instance of an entity comprises associated data, for use with a parser for identifying a first instance of an entity in data associated with a document set in accordance with a first rule and for using the first instance of the entity to identify a second instance of the entity in the data associated with the document set. The system comprises an accessor for accessing data associated with the second instance of the entity; and a generator for using the data associated with the second instance of the entity to generate a second rule.

Abstract: A system for information capture for use in an environment is provided. Each node in a knowledge network associated with a first piece of expertise information that communicates with at least one other node associated with the first piece of expertise information is aggregated to form a first expertise network. Each node in the first expertise network associated with a second piece of expertise information that communicates with at least one other node associated with the second piece of expertise information is aggregated to form a second expertise network. Visual representations of the knowledge network, the first expertise network, and the second expertise network are generated. Trends and patterns are determined using the visualization of the knowledge network, the visualization of the first expertise network, and the visualization of the second expertise network.
