Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for document extraction and synthesis. Specifically, a system and method for extracting portions of a document to be changed and automatedly synthesizing the changes to the extracted portion of the document to conform to the language and structure required for the final document. The present invention allows a user to modify an existing set of laws and automatedly transform the changes into a final document that complies with the specified language and format requirements for that final document. For example, a bill drafter can select a provision of existing law to modify and the system will transform the changes to the existing law into a bill to be presented before the lawmaking body that complies with all of the precise language and formatting requirements of bills to be presented.

Abstract: The present invention provides more robust change management features to an XML document by allowing a user to interrelate changes. The system and method allow a user to group a set of changes together, nest a change within a group of changes, relate effectivity information about a change, and detect conflicting changes. This more robust change management feature will allow for greater collaboration, clarity, and efficiency in a workplace where many users may be working on a number of different areas in a document.

Abstract: Embodiments include a system and method of facilitating the control and management of information and actions related to the computerized creation, maintenance, processing, storage, retrieval, and use of structured electronic documents in a manner such that collections of documents which are closely related with regard to structure can be stored and maintained in conformance with a single, underlying, abstract document structure model while concurrently conforming to a user-defined document structure model.
