Abstract: A minimized-thickness angular scanner of electromagnetic radiation includes an optical sandwich having a two-dimensional (2D) image source, and a scanning assembly that includes a first optic and a second optic, wherein at least one of the first optic and the second optic are oscillatorily translating. Translation of the optics provides for generation of a three-dimensional (3D) image, while the optical sandwich design provides for compact implementation of 3D displays.

Abstract: A system and a method for generating rendering data associated with a 3-D image are provided. The system includes a 3-D API configured to generate a first 3-D data message indicative of one or more voxels in a first 3-D image from first 3-D image data. The system further includes a 3-D rendering software driver configured to receive the first 3-D data message from the 3-D API. The system further includes a 2-D rendering software driver operably communicating with a 3-D rendering software driver and a rendering device. The 3-D rendering software driver is configured to generate at least a first rendering command identifying one or more voxels in a slice of the first 3-D image. The 3-D rendering software driver sends the first rendering command to the 2-D rendering software driver. The 2-D rendering software driver is configured to generate at least a first 2-D array of data based on the rendering command utilizing the rendering device.

Abstract: A method for selecting a desired region of an image displayed by a three-dimensional display device includes using a pointing device in communication with the three-dimensional display device to direct a pointer to at least one of a desired position and orientation, the pointer displayed by the three-dimensional display device. The pointing device is used to engage a selection mechanism once the pointer is directed to at least one of a desired position and orientation.

Abstract: In general, in one aspect, the invention features an optical system which forms a light field by providing components of the light field in a series of frames to an image space. The optical system includes a spatial light modulator, a projection lens assembly configured to image the spatial light modulator to the image space for each of a plurality of optical paths, and a scanning optical component configured to direct light from the spatial light modulator through the projection lens to the image space, wherein during operation the scanning optical component directs light corresponding to successive frames along each of the plurality of optical paths through the projection lens assembly.
