Patent number: 11964589Abstract: An electrified vehicle includes a storage compartment positioned forward of a vehicle passenger cabin and accessible by opening a vehicle hood, a thermally conductive plate or heat exchanger in contact with a bottom surface of the storage compartment and having an associated conduit configured for circulating a working fluid from a vehicle cooling system, and a valve operable to control flow of the working fluid through the conduit. The storage compartment may be filled with a cooling medium, such as ice or dry ice, to provide enhanced cooling during high-demand operation or charging of the vehicle, such as when operating in a performance/track mode, towing a trailer, or in other extreme use scenarios. The valve may be controlled so that the working fluid bypasses the conduit when the storage compartment is used for cargo and/or enhanced cooling is not desired.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2021Date of Patent: April 23, 2024Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Patrick Gordon Collins, David Michael Horan, Thomas Karl Rothermel, Jacob Gregory Powers

Patent number: 10471937Abstract: A compressed air system is provided for automotive or motorcycle use, wherein compressed air is utilized to assist clearing a windshield or a windscreen during foul weather. The system comprises an electrically driven or belt driven air compressor, a compressed air reservoir tank, a network of air lines throughout the vehicle or attached to a rider's helmet, and a plurality of air nozzles that release the air from the air lines on command. The ejected air is highly pressurized and exits at a high velocity to remove water droplets and particles for improved clarity through the windshield or wind screen. A user-operated switch controls at least one valve to release the compressed air from the network of air lines and through the nozzles, wherein the compressed air tank is continually replenished to allow for consistent and repeated bursts of compressed air over an extended period.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2013Date of Patent: November 12, 2019Inventors: Kenneth Davis, Gregory Collins, Jr.

Publication number: 20180326329Abstract: A flushable filter system is configured to purify a contaminated liquid containing substances that degrade filter performance and includes a filter cartridge including semi-permeable hollow fiber membrane that separates the filter cartridge into an upstream compartment and a downstream compartment. The system includes a flush port in communication with the upstream compartment of the filter cartridge for periodically discharging accumulated particulates and contaminates from an upstream side of the semi-permeable hollow fiber membrane. A device is provided to reduce mechanical stress imposed on the semi-permeable hollow fiber membrane during operation of the flushable filter system resulting in maintenance of integrity of the semi-permeable hollow fiber membrane during extended use and cyclic operation of the filter cartridge. The device is configured to dampen any fluid pressure spike that is observed within the flushable filter system during operation thereof.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2018Publication date: November 15, 2018Inventors: Gregory Collins, Daron Evans, Michael Milman

Patent number: 9492793Abstract: A flush pump feature on a liquid purifying filter includes a segment of flexible tubing containing a small bulb pump is described. Two check valves are positioned upstream and downstream of the bulb pump which then terminates with a simple manually operated open/closed valve. The addition of this flush pump feature enables the filter unit to be easily purged of air at first use and also will make the filter easier to clean and maintain without the need to remove it from a hydration carrier. In addition, the flush bulb feature can also be used to perform a simple visual integrity test of filter while out in a remote location and also can be used to effectively remove bulk water from the filter for lighter storage when not in use which also minimizes freeze related damage when used in a cold environment.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2015Date of Patent: November 15, 2016Assignee: NEPHROS, INC.Inventors: Michael Milman, Gregory Collins, James Summerton
