  • Publication number: 20050030941
Abstract: A personal computer includes a PBX control program and one or more switch cards located in expansion board slots. The one or more switch cards are coupled to one or more port expansion units (PEU), which are coupled to telecommunication lines out to the various extension phones at the customer premises. Each PEU contains its own digital signal processor (DSP) so that distributed digital signal processing may be implemented to avoid any bottlenecks. One master PEU is coupled to a switch card by a time division multiplexed (TDMA) bus as well as a packet switched control bus, and all the other PEUs, if any, are coupled to the master PEU by extensions of the TDMA and packet switched buses. The TDMA bus carries PBX real time conversations while the packet switched bus carries control information, voicemail outbound message data packets, and inbound voicemail data packets.

  • Patent number: 6837816
Abstract: A motor-integrated transmission mechanism for use in parallel hybrid electric vehicles. The transmission can provide five basic modes of operation that can be further classified into sixteen sub-modes: one electric motor mode, four engine modes, four engine/charge modes, three power modes and four regenerative braking modes. Each of these sub-modes can be grouped into like clutching conditions, providing the functional appearance of a conventional 4-speed automatic transmission, with electric launch, engine-only, engine/charge, power-assist, and regeneration capability. CVT capability is provided with one of the engine/charge modes. The transmission can be incorporated in front-wheel drive and in rear-wheel drive vehicles.

  • Patent number: 6713074
Abstract: The cosmetic topical formulation of this invention is directed toward diminishing skin wrinkling, fine line, improving skin tone, and combinations thereof. Preferably, the topical formulation contains a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, MMPI, and advantageously includes a natural estrogen, e.g., a true estrogen compound, such as 17-beta estradiol, or an estrogen-like steroid, (such as various phytoestrogens found in herbal preparations), as opposed to a synthetic estrogen. Other forms of the cosmetic topical formulation of this invention include combinations of synthetic estrogen and MMP inhibitor. Exemplary synthetic estrogens include, but are not limited to, ethinyl estradiol and clomiphine citrate. The cosmetic topical formulation is safe and effective diminishing wrinkling, and improving skin tone.

  • Patent number: 6592484
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel parallel hybrid transmission that transmits torque from two power sources to the drive wheels of a vehicle. The transmission functions with a single heat engine and a single electric motor/generator. Through the use of a compound planetary gear train and four automatically controlled clutches, the transmission is able to (i) sum torque from the two power sources to drive the vehicle; (ii) split torque from the heat engine to drive the vehicle and charge the batteries; (iii) transmit torque individually from either of the two power sources; and (iv) operate as a one- or two-degree-of-freedom mechanism. The configuration of clutches and the compound planetary gear train enable thirteen modes of operation, namely, one motor-only mode, three combined motor and engine modes, one continuous variable transmission/charging mode, four engine-only modes, and four regenerative braking modes.

  • Publication number: 20030083321
Abstract: The invention pertains to compositions and methods to treat the adverse effects of mustard chemicals and other toxic compounds, such as chemical warfare agents, exposure to which normally induces vesicating type response in mammals. In a rodent eye model at fixed concentrations of such a vesicant, compositions comprising (a) a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor, MMPI, and (b) a protease inhibitor, PI, such as a serine protease inhibitor, SPI, a significant reduction in morbidity is achieved with increased concentrations of the compositions of this invention, as compared with an MMPI inhibitor alone or vehicle alone. Furthermore, compositions comprising the MMPI, the SPI, and in addition, an anti-inflammatory compound, in a vehicle appropriate to the type of tissue damage to be protected against from vesicant exposure, achieves both reduction in total tissue damage and inflammation, as compared with anti-inflammatory composition alone.

  • Publication number: 20020177828
Abstract: This invention relates to methods and compositions for materials having a non-leaching coating that has antimicrobial properties. The coating is applied to substrates such as gauze-type wound dressings. Covalent, non-leaching, non-hydrolyzable bonds are formed between the substrate and the polymer molecules that form the coating. A high concentration of anti-microbial groups on multi-length polymer chains and relatively long average chain lengths, contribute to an absorbent or superabsorbent surface with a high level antimicrobial effect.

  • Patent number: 5329701
Abstract: A tool is used to custom fit rubber slip-ons onto golf shoes for use in wet conditions to keep the feet of the golfer dry. The tool can be manually manipulated to cut openings into the sole of a slip-on of an appropriate size so that the openings are aligned with the spikes of the golf shoe. When openings have been cut for all of the spikes, the sole of the slip-on rests against a base of the spikes and the sole of the golf shoe. The tool has an elongated hollow body with two ends. One end has a circular cutting edge thereon and the other end has a handle thereon. After the slip-on is placed onto the golf shoe with the spikes separating the sole of the slip-on from the sole of the golf shoe, the tool is aligned with each spike in turn to cut an appropriate opening for that spike. Previously, slip-ons have been designed with pre-cut openings but these slip-ons can only be used with a specific model of golf shoe of a specific manufacturer having a specific size.

  • Patent number: 5190153
Abstract: A holder for storing compact discs where each disc is contained within a conventional disc container uses a housing and anchoring means for the housing. The anchoring means is used to mount the housing in a motor vehicle. The housing contains partial partitions that are sufficiently large to hold said containers in a spaced apart parallel relationship from one another extending from front to rear of said housing when the disc containers are inserted into the housing through the front. The housing has retention means for each container to hold the containers within the housing when the containers are oriented with the groove towards the rear wall and towards the retention means. The retention means contacts a groove of each disc container and holds said container in said housing until the container is pulled out of said housing so that the retention means automatically releases itself from said disc container.
