Abstract: Apparatus including fluid motors and a pair of collars for adjustably mounting a coffer dam upon a piling by assembling equipment while operating above the water line thereby avoiding the need for underwater divers to perform dangerous underwater operations. Also included are a plurality of scrapers that are biased against the piling for removing accumulated detritus during upward and downward movement of the scrapers upon the piling.

Abstract: A method for repairing a support piling, in situ, while immersed in water, comprising the steps of encircling a portion of said piling in need of repair above and below the water line in a coffer dam; and evacuating water from said coffer dam for exposing the portion of the piling in need of repair. Repair steps include blasting damaged portions with high pressure water and/or abrasive particles, adding metal support rods where needed, applying zinc or similar metal for protection against electrolysis, and treating the repaired area with a protective coating such as concrete or grout.

Abstract: A coffer dam for use in maintenance and repair of support pylons for marine structures such as piers, wharfs, and drilling platforms. Insulated bottom, side walls and roof members form an enclosure that can be heated, or cooled, to provide a good work environment and can protect against undesirable condensation that could adversely effect chemicals and coating materials. A grated floor member allows for debris to be collected and a vacuum system is used for proper disposal, and an improved seal protects against water leaking into the enclosure.
