Publication number: 20220018155Abstract: A panel-mounted latch module includes a cable extending from a housing of the latch module to deliver either power or signals either to or from the latch module. A rotatable member is rotatably connected to the housing. A pawl is mounted to the rotatable member and is moveable between a locked position to prevent access to the secured area and an unlocked position to permit access to the secured area. A sleeve is fixed to the housing and at least partially surrounds the rotatable member, such that the rotatable member rotates with respect to the sleeve. A fastener is configured to be mounted to the sleeve for attaching the latch module to the panel. A washer is positioned between the fastener and the panel. The washer has a channel through which the cable passes so as to either limit or prevent the fastener from compressing the cable.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2019Publication date: January 20, 2022Applicant: Southco, Inc.Inventor: Gregory Gilbert Garneau

Patent number: 10294695Abstract: A latch for capturing a striker includes a latch cam, a trigger, a drive cam, a motor coupled to the drive cam, and a switch coupled to the motor. The latch cam is biased to rotate toward an open position and configured to capture the striker in a closed position. The drive cam uses at least one cam surface to contact the trigger, and the switch permits actuation of the motor to rotate the drive cam when sensing the trigger or the drive cam, thereby rotating the drive cam to urge the trigger toward an unlocked position, disengage the trigger from the latch cam, and allow the latch cam to rotate from the closed position toward the open position. A system incorporating the latch and method of capturing a striker is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2018Date of Patent: May 21, 2019Assignee: SOUTHCO, INC.Inventor: Gregory Gilbert Garneau

Patent number: 7780204Abstract: An electromechanical push to close latch has a pawl positioned for linear movement in a housing, with the pawl being biased to the outward extended position. An electric motor operates a cam to change the position of the pawl thereby retracting it into the housing. An electronic circuit board controls the operation of the electric motor under the direction of an outside control signal. The circuit board also senses the position of the pawl to stop the operation of the motor when the pawl is fully retracted. The pawl mounting can be reconfigured for the pawl to extend and thereby operate in a plurality of selectable directions.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2008Date of Patent: August 24, 2010Assignee: Southco, Inc.Inventors: Gregory Gilbert Garneau, Robert Benson Speers, Jr.

Patent number: 6960112Abstract: An airfoil blade in a powered toy aircraft has a body with a cushioned edge. The body has a first end adjoining a hub, a second opposing end, a forward edge, and an opposing trailing edge. The cushioned leading edge is attached mechanically to the body and extends along the forward edge so as to form a cushioned leading edge of the blade or along the second end to form a cushioned blade tip or both. The body is formed from a first resiliently flexible polymer plastic material. The cushioned edge is formed from a second noticeably softer material such as an elastomer.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2004Date of Patent: November 1, 2005Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: David Vincent Helmlinger, Gregory Gilbert Garneau, Lee Chun Wah, Chung Zhi Jie
