    Abstract: An underground compressed natural gas ("CNG") storage and service system is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of underground storage containers, a compressor for compressing natural gas, and first conduit means for conducting CNG from the compressor to the storage containers and from the storage containers to a vehicle or other location. In one embodiment, each storage container is an elongated (e.g., 100 feet) string of conventional oil field casing sealed at both ends and positioned in a borehole drilled into the earth. A reinforcing concrete sheath surrounds the casing. A siphon line is disposed within the casing for removing contaminating material that accumulates therein.Also provided is a method of installing an underground CNG storage apparatus having a predetermined gas volume capacity.
