  • Publication number: 20090094235
Abstract: A platform for ordering search results according to result popularity a directory assistance service, itself, to determine the popularity of the listings associated with a particular category and, therefore, the order in which those listings should be delivered resulting from a category search. Priority may be determined by the popularity of each search result. For example, directory assistance users in a particular location will likely know which businesses have a reputation for providing the best service or highest-quality products. Such factors will determine the popularity of these businesses. Businesses that are more popular are likely to be selected more frequently from the category search results than those that are less popular. The system may examine the history of search results for each listing and order the results of a particular category search according to the number of historical requests for each returned listing.

  • Patent number: 7310609
Abstract: In connection with display of advertising within Web pages, an applet is downloaded to the user's Web browser to track the user's interactions with the Web page. Tracked user interactions include mouse cursor position, time displayed on page, time of mouse cursor hovering over the advertisement, and so on. At an appropriate time, such as when the display of the Web page is terminated, the applet forwards logged interaction information from the client to a remote server, the remote server being typically controlled by an advertiser, rating service or the like. As a result, the advertiser may track consumer response to advertising impressions on a Web page without requiring the user to download other pages. This allows advertisers to track user response to specific elements of the Web page as well as to better infer information about the user's interests in an effort to qualify the user prior to presenting subsequent advertising.

  • Publication number: 20010043215
Abstract: A technique for permitting a Web page to include multimedia programs that are to be executed at the time that the page is displayed such as in an advertisement. The invention uses decompressors built into Web browsers and written in native code such as Graphical Image File (GIF) decompressors to encode not only images but also other information such as animation program code and sounds. As a result, special decompression software and/or animation plug-ins need not be downloaded to the Web browser prior to displaying an animated multimedia presentation as part of a Web page advertisement.

  • Patent number: 6029129
Abstract: Quantizing optimizes compression encoding for transmission of audio data. A working set of most frequent sound levels in a sequence of audio samples is determined from a histogram. Sound levels from the working set are then substituted for original sound levels in the subject audio data. This filters the audio data by increasing redundancy and decreasing granularity/resolution.
