  • Publication number: 20080181291
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses identifying a co-channel interference signal in communications systems are disclosed. An exemplary method comprises generating an interference signal by subtracting a reconstructed desired signal from an at least partially demodulated composite signal, and generating synchronization statistics of interference signal using different scrambling codes. The interference signal is identified as the signal associated with the scrambling code that was used to generate an interference signal having a desired synchronization statistic.

  • Patent number: 7403574
Abstract: A simplified scrambling scheme that unifies all signals of a satellite broadcasting system, including frame header (404), frame body (402) and pilot symbols (408) with a common reference phase. This results in the simplification and increased flexibility of the receiver front-end design without affecting the overall system performance. In many current communications systems with frame headers and pilot symbols, the phases of frame headers and pilot syrnbols are not designed to be aligned with any constellation points of the modulated data from the frame body. This scrambling scheme takes into account possible impact due to irregular phase changes between frame headers/pilot symbols and modulated data.

  • Publication number: 20070116144
Abstract: A method and apparatus for optimizing a system for transmitting a layered modulated signal is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of defining the system in terms of a set of system parameters, including an optimal power separation S between a power of a first modulation layer and a power of a second modulation layer and a required system carrier-to-noise ratio (CNRS), determining an optimal power separation S to minimize the error rate of a lower layer modulated signal BERL, and selecting the remaining system parameters in the set of system parameters using the determined optimal power separation S.

  • Publication number: 20070074242
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for determining scrambling codes for minimizing co-channel interference in a communication system. A method in accordance with the present invention comprises defining at least one initial default sequence, generating a scrambling code, scrambling a signal using the generated scrambling code, comparing the scrambled signal with all other scrambled signals meeting a specified criterion, and saving the scrambling code word if the comparison determines that the signal scrambled with the scrambling code also meets the specified criterion. The scrambling codes can be compared with each other for cross-correlation purposes to determine whether they meet the specified criterion based on laboratory testing.

  • Patent number: 6493399
Abstract: A digital wireless communications system which eliminates intersymbol interference in a transmitted signal using a plurality of precoders in a transmitter thereof and a method of using the same. The digital wireless communications system includes a receiver having an antenna array for receiving transmitted digitally-encoded signals, and a transmitter for transmitting the digitally-encoded signals. The transmitter has a plurality of precoders which eliminate intersymbol interference in the transmitted signals such that the receiver recovers digital information from the transmitted signals which is free from intersymbol interference. Ambiguity resistant (AR) precoding has been recently proposed in intersymbol interference (ISI) and multipath cancellations, where the ISI/multipath channel may have frequency-selective fading characteristics and its knowledge is not necessarily known. With the AR precoding, no diversity is necessary at the receiver.
